Bathsheba was apparently alive in 1840 but died within the next few years. Joseph apparently died in 1846, a period of time after his wife. No tombstones have been turned up in the area for ether Joseph or Bathsheba. One son is buried in DeKalb. If your records go back that far, could you look to see if these people are listed. I particular need a document that shows Bathsheba was alive and living in the area prior to 1840. If anyone else has church records they could check I would appreciate that too. Thank you from anything anyone can add about this family.. 1. I Need More Church Records
    2. Russell Sprague
    3. Hi List - I have been transcribing, indexing and uploading church records to the St. Lawrence county site at usgenweb for some time now. Progress was pretty slow until a volunteer in Washington state (Dave Payn) started helping out. Now, I am near the end of records to work with. If any of you could locate and copy older church records (from the 1930's and older), I'll give you my snail mail address (you could look it up at google) and I'll be happy to make a donation to the church towards copying costs. Thanks - Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland

    3. Naturalization records are indexed at the county courthouse in Canton. Since you know the date of naturalization it would be a quick search. If you have not researched the 1860 and 1850 censuses you might find something on them. Also 1914 is recent enough that you might find an obit. Go to google and search 'ny state newspaper project'. This will give you info re borrowing newspapers on microfilm via interlibrary loan. Your local library will have to have a microfilm reader and will initiate the request. If a trip to Canton is not convenient for you and if paid research is an option, I could recommend a local researcher or you could contact the SLCHA (St. Lawrence county historical society). Cenus records are a bit of a stretch as they would not be indexed and you don't know when he came into the country (but the naturalization record might tell you this). I'm copying the list on this because someone reading this may have useful info to share or more suggestions. I do know James was in the Poor House in Canton,N.Y. in 1910 and he died in 1914. His Death Certificate says he was about 95 at the time of his death. The census for 1870 says he was 48 years of age and in 1900 census says he was 68 years of age. I am totally confused. His poor house records say he was Naturalized in 1870 and had been in the usa for 52 years.I hope you can help me , so I won't be so confused. 3. One might try the selected Rev. War Pension files on microfilm. They Syracuse library has the microfilms and these are on the Godfrey online site as well. Some of those county histories written in the 1890s sometimes mention things such as this, but likely not in any detail. Smith and step-son of Ansel Miller. Clarence is named in their obituaries but he does not appear with the family on any of the census records that I have found. Sarah married Ansel Lysander Miller on 5 March 1890 in Edwardsville. Sarah was from the Hammond area, daughter of Maria Countryman and Henry Smith. Since the first child of Ansel and Sarah was born in 8 Jul 1891, and because Ansel's obit states he is a step-son, I am assuming Clarence was born prior to the 1890 marriage.
