That census, for the county, is transcribed, indexed and online at the county site under usgenweb.org. As of yesterday and this morning there is some technical problem with the site. Once you go to www.usgenweb.org, click 'NY' then 'choose a county' then St. Lawrence county, then 'select a link' and 'census'. Be sure to also check the extensive cemetery records by Anne Cady, and the many other resources at the site. The 1880 census for the entire U.S. is transcribed and online at www.familysearch.org. You may find Silas there and likely married at that age. Hope this helps - Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland

Good points. Barring fire, flood or some other catastrophe, I expect my paper records would be useable 50-100 years from now. Anything done by computer may well be obsolete in the next 5-10 years. Videotape has had a good run. I have video of my kids from twenty years ago. Time now to convert that to DVD. Not all computers can read home computer created cds and dvds and they may have limited life related to manufacture and type, and the machines that can read them may not be here a few years from now. There is an interesting article on cd and dvd media in the latest issue of "Genealogical Computing" that people reading this might want to seek out. I looked this up a couple of years ago for someone else, but they didn't reply to the message. Perhaps this family is yours. If you give more information about ages etc. its easier to look up. The 1851 census of Franklin County shows John Sullivan with wife Margaret and children Jeramiah, Thomas and Mary. Parents born Ireland; children born NY. Ages are: 34, 34, 7, 4 and ten months.
