In addition, there is an even earlier marriage involving people with similar surnames. Eustache Gadbois-Vendendaigue, son of Jean-Baptiste Vendendaigue-Gadbois and Francoise Primot to Mary/Marie Pare/Pance , daughter of Etienne Pance and Genevieve LaSalle. I've given the spelling as it appears in a transcript of the record. The marriage date is given as Feb 6, 1804. The St Regis records also include baptisms and burials for some of the children of these three couples.

There is no mention of the name "Vivana" in any of the documents she sent me. Unfortunately, all contact has been lost with whoever took over her Blanchard files although I was told, when informed of her passing, that someone in the family would carry on her Blanchard research. I'm wondering if the name "Viola" in my original message could actually be "Vivanna"? But I find it hard to believe that Pat would make such an error. She was a dedicated and meticulous genealogist. Sorry I can't be any more help in your search. Tom

Based on his age in 1840, Haviland could be in the family of George, David or Stephen Sweet.

Matilda is the daughter of Carlos Greenbush and his first wife Rosette. You'll find Matilda at age 23 with Carlos and family in the 1850 census of Massena, St Lawrence Co, NY. The last name in this census is sometimes given as Grumbach, as the handwriting is a bit difficult. Louis is the son of Joseph Gadbois and Victoire Electa Hens. After Joseph's death, Electa married Carlos Greenbush and they can be found with their younger children in the 1860 census of Massena. Louis joined the 34th NY Infantry in the Civil War and was killed at Antietum. I don't know exactly when Matilda died, but their orphaned children later moved to Minnesota with other members of the Gadbaw and Greenbush families.

DNA testing linked us to another Wells family from upstate NY as well. They are stuck trying to find their ancestor from the same generation. A biography listed the other Wells' as French Huguenots. Accordingly, we are checking out the possibility of the last name being changed from Depuy or Dupuis to Wells. Another possibility we are checking is Welsch. We found a family from Alsace in NY about the right time.
