My local library (in Maryland) got a microfilm of an upstate NY paper from a holding library in Kentucky. Go figure. Being out of the country is another matter. I think the LDS have Family History Centers around the world. That might be worth looking into. Rootsweb has message boards devoted to single surnames. You might try that (start at www.rootsweb.com) Good luck - Russ

Surnames: Webb, Dain Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2RB.2ACE/2247.2780.1 Message Board Post: Michele, I am also related to this family through their son Henry Webb who married Lydia Rice. I went to Ireland and found records of the births of three of the children incuding Henry in magheragall Parish C of I records, Co. Antrim just outside Belfast. I believe Jonathan's wife's name was McComb, since there were no McGowans in the area and there were other Webb/McComb marriages. I believe this Webb family was related to the Quaker Webb family that moved from Belfast to Armagh in the 1600s and were involved in the linen industry (weavers). There are many Henry and Jonathans in this family and a Quaker record indicating that some of the Webb families left the Quaker community to become "new light" methodists". Methodist records would have been recorded in the C of I. Anyway, if you can find Quaker records for Northern Ireland, check out the Webb line. BTW, I believe Jonathan's mother who is buried in Edwards may have been Jane Kidd, born in Armagh in 1754. Good luck, Mary

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Worthington Scott Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2RB.2ACE/8374 Message Board Post: newspaper dated Tues. 15 Dec. 1914 Fine, Dec. 12- While hold-ups are not common occurrences in the vicinity, an exciting one occurred about 2 miles from the village of Fine Thursday about 6. William Worthington, who has been employed for sometime at High Falls, was returning to his home on Irish Hill, about 4 or 5 miles from here. He was walking, and as he came around a turn in the road he saw, a few rods ahead of him, a man sitting beside the road. He did not cross the road and as he was passing directly in front of the stranger the latter stepped out and dealt Worthington a stunning blow upon the head, rendering him unconscious. He then relieved him of his pocket book containing $90 and watch snatched the coat from Worthington's back, ran sacked that and made off. When Worthington became conscious, only a few moments after the man was not to be seen. Worthington managed to reach the next house and the owner, Herbert Scott returned with him to the scene of the hold-up. There they found the coat, empty pcketbook and two bills, which had probably been dropped in the man's hurry. A short distance away was the watch badly broken, having been run over by a passing wagon. Children living in the vicinity of the hold-up claim to have seen a strange man prowling around near the place late Tursday afternoon, but they could not state anything definite about his appearance. Worthington has reported the matter, but so far no clue has been found. It is believed that someone, who knew Worthington had drawn his pay and planned to go home that night, waited for him purely with the intentions of robbing him.

    3. I am really confounded. I have searched in all kinds of places and cannot find any reference to a Michael O"Connor and wife Catherine living in Stockholm or North Lawrence in 1866. I have a letter that was sent to my gr grandaunts while they were staying there. Does anyone have access to census' around that time or anyother records which might show them and where they lived? According to family records the farm was a few miles from Brasher and that Mary Desmond bought it after Michael died. Any help would be appreciated. I would love to find at least one of his descendants as we are planning a reunion next summer and this would be a wonderful addition since I have found descendants of some of my gr gr grandfathers other siblings. marg
