    3. If they are still in the area and have listed phone numbers (and have not changed names due to marriage) you might find their phone numbers and address at www.411.com. On the chance that some may be deceased, you can try the ssdi (social security death index). There is a link to this from www.rootsweb.com. It would list people who died about 1960 and later if they qualified for social security benefits. Could anyone please shed some light on why it's called San Jule Cemetery when there's no body from my family buried there? Both my GGrandfather Antoine and Grandfather Francis E.lived in North Lawrence and are supposed to be buried in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery by the church. Thank you for any clues.

    2. Hello I have been out of the picture having lost my home and entire belongings in Florida to Hurricane Wilma. Not a pleasant picture since I had just recovered from the 2004 storms of Hurricane Frances & Jeanne. However Major Watson is my both my 4th and 5th G Grandfather. He was in the Town of Oswegatchie, St Lawrence County NY and I have his entilre history going back to him prior to St Lawrence County NY and where he is buried. I doubt if anyone knows more of his history than I do, but I have spent a great deal getting it. Regards Pat R

The oldest records where you might find useful info are the indexed land records, wills and probate at the various county offices. If a trip to northern NY is not convenient you might consider hiring a local researcher. You can contact the St. Lawrence county historical association for their recommendations. Several cemeteries have been photographed and indexed with the results uploaded to the county website at www.usgenweb.org. You might want to check that site. 3. You can go to www.411.com 'business' listings and search fort the category 'church'. That should show you the current active churches. I associate 'parish' with Catholic but I'm not sure whether other churches might use the same term. For queries in general, I would suggest you always include the name of the person of interest and relevant dates. You have an obit so you have a name, possibly a date of death and a general location of burial. If you re-post your query, someone might see the additional info and have the piece you are missing. Of top importance would be to include the surname in the email subject line. Hope this helps - Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland From: "Kathy Campbell" <katgcamp@bellsouth.net> To: NYSTLAWR-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYSTLAWR] Massena Church & Cemetery Date: Thu, 12 Jan 2006 16:11:25 -0500 I just found an obituary for someone whose funeral was held at St. Lawrence Church, and the obit says she was buried in the parish cemetery. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2RB.2ACE/8386.1 Message Board Post: Hi Mary. I suspect Percey is Percy Sterling (b. 1880). She is the sister of Amy Sterling who was born in 1876. Their father was Fred Sterling and mother was Harriet Washburn who died in 1913. Fred then married Anna Conklin Dane. Mrs. Sarah Washburn should be Sarah Elizabeth Brown Washburn (1862-1938), wife of Sylvester Washburn (my great grandparents). Viola Brown should be Sarah Washburn's sister, Viola Brown Scott (1866-1920). She married Cyrus Scott in 1892. Mrs. J. H. Lalonde (Lealone) is another sister of Sarah and Viola Brown, namely Esther Brown Lalonde, wife of Judson Hugh Lalonde. They were married in 1884. I believe Mrs. C. O Richardson is Eliza Truax Richardson (1861-1905) who married Charles Richardson. I'll have to check out the other notes when I have more time. Anne
