Ezra George Pike, Jr. was born 23 Apr 1849 in Brasher, NY. The only Pike in Brasher in an index of the 1860 census is Stephen G., brother of Ezra, Sr. Their parents were Simeon [d, 6 Aug 1847, Stockholm, St. Lawrence county, NY] & Hannah [d. 10 Oct 1847, Stockholm] Pike. Stephen [b. 27 Jul 1812, NH, buried Richardson cemetery, Brasher] married Rachel Hilyard [1821-1894, buried Richardson]. Stephen & Rachel had 10 children that I know of, 3 of whom I have information on descendants down to the current. I just looked at a map of NY counties and see that Montgomery does not border St. Lawrence so there may have been further splits over time. The earliest reliable records are land records which typically *are* indexed by last name in the county courthouses. Your best bet would be to make a trip to each county courthouse or hire local researchers to search records. This assumes that your ancestor was a land owner and that he lived on the land he owned. If he died in any of the counties you migh find a will or probate record. Hope this helps - Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland
