In 1820 he is in Essex Co., MA. On the 1830, 1840 and 1850 census there is a Richard Ranney living in Hammond, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y. Have pictures of tombstones showing Richard and Sarah Renney in Rarick Cemetery in Hammond. Sarah (Sally) died in 1853 and Richard died in 1857. Would you have any reference to them that might confirm that their name was Renne? The 1850 census lists him as Richard "Runey" born in N.Y. Family members are not included in the census until 1850. 1840 and previous census years have head of household only with males and females in various age categories. However, I checked 1840 for Richard Loomis with the Ancestry search and did not turn up an entry. I also tried Erie Co. NY and got no entry. You can try the town clerk but note that records were not kept until 1880 and you are mostly likely to find records in the late 1880's onward. There is an indexed, online transcription of the 1880 US census at www.familysearch.org. You might want to search that. The Constable , N.Y. 1860 census list Richard's age as 20. That would make him born in 1840. Of course the census isn't always correct either. Thanks for your help.
