Note that naturalization is voluntary so there may or may not be a record there but they are indexed which makes for a quick search. If a trip to the Canton, NY courthouse is not convenient and hiring a researcher is a possibilty you could contact the St. Lawrence count historical association for a recommendation. Wills and probate records are also indexed and sometimes help identify family relationships. Hope this helps - Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland

Benjamin and Mary immigrated from northern Ireland (Antrium, Ballymena, Glenwherry) around 1818 with their five children and settled around Stone Church Road and Black Lake. I am, in particulary, seeking information on how, when & where he immigrated from Ireland as well as the idenfification of Witherhead family left in Ireland. They brought with them an introductory letter from the Presbyterian Church of Scotlan which included the following: Alex Ferguson, James Gilmour, Alexander Jamieson, Arthur Gilmour, Daniel Robinson, James Russell, Alex Bois, Arthur Gilmour (Jr), Andrew Percy, Mary Ferguson, Betsy Gilmour, Christiana Jamieson, Janet Gilmour, Jennet Haggart, Anna Russell, XXX Bois, Mary Witherhead, and Agnes Gilmour. Benjamin and Mary Witherhead are buried in the Stone Church Cemetery. Any help would be appreciated.

Google for 'ny state newspaper project'. This will display a link to info on old newspapers available on microfilm that you can borrow via interlibrary loan. You initiate the request from your local library (they will need a microfilm reader). It's rare to find much prior to about 1870. Thank you. rl ps I realze that Hogansburg is Franklin county but I think it was Clinton county during that time period. Also where would I find any articles on a newspaper called the Observer in the early 1900s?
The Observer would be the Massena Observer. I believe the Library in Massena might have the newspapers, but I don't know how far back they go. Hogansburg is not to far from Massena.
