We understand that there were relatives still living in the Malone,NY area in the 1940's but have no names. It would be such fun to find others of our generation - the approaching retirement group - to meet. We're often in NY and were actually close to Malone on more than one occasion. Our grandfather, Frank Bryant, died before we were born of peritonitis in Portland, Or. leaving a widow, Agnes Moran Bryant, and 6 adult children. Thanks again, Kathleen Marshall, Bainbridge Island, WA

If a person died after about 1960 and if they applied for or recieved social security you might find them there. Also it helps that Alonzo and Ina are unusual given names. There was no entry for Alonzo but there is one for an Ina Bancroft whose last place of residence was Massena. This may be the one you want info on (a few other Ina Bancrofts were listed). She was born Oct. 5, 1882 and died July 1983. There is a link at that site where you can apply for more info from the social security administration (there is a fee). There is a 'post it note' feature at the site where you can leave a note with your email address to indicate your interest in this family. If someone else (possibly years from now) has information to share, they might see your note and contact you. I would strongly advise that you get and use one of the major free internet based email addresses (hotmail or yahoo). If you change ISP's you won't have to think about changing your email address. If you leave some old stranded email address behind in a 'post it note' no one will be able to contact you. Some old newspapers are on microfilm and some are searchable online. You may be able to find an obit now that you have a date of death (if this is the right Ina Bancroft). Hope this helps - Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland

I have a Joseph Watson b. July 10, 1826 in Bristol, England. He emigrated to Canton 1847, but did not apply until 1880. He was a farmer in Fine in 1880. His wife was Mary Ann Allen and they had a son William Watson. Also, I believe his parents were William O. Watson and Mary Howerman (Hoverman). ----- Original Message ----- From: <PNUTREG@cs.com> To: <NYSTLAWR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 18, 2006 10:35 PM Subject: Re: [NYSTLAWR] Re: Looking for Watson relatives > Hello > > If your Joseph Watson did not marry a McGraw/McGrath then tell us who he > did > marry and perhaps we could help you. Hello If your Joseph Watson did not marry a McGraw/McGrath then tell us who he did marry and perhaps we could help you. There was more than 1 Joseph Watson and I am sure someone has the answer. If you have done some in depth research you should include enough information in your request to at least give us the DOB, DOM and DOD for your "Joseph McGraw". Without that information one cannot give you what your are looking for. Pat R "A Watson Descendant)

This is from the county site at www.usgenweb.org. Jane Layo, Waddington historian (Email address below) has the complete inventory of cemeteries moved during the St. Lawrence Seaway Construction. These involve cemeteries in Massena, Louisville and Waddington. In addition she has the complete listing of cemeteries moved on the Canadian side and is willing to do research on both of these (charge only for professional researchers who are doing research for a price).. She is planning to have the 19 cemeteries moved during the Seaway on the U. S. side made into a publication much the same as she has for the Canadian cemeteries moved during this time. wadhist@northnet.org Here is a link to a Massena Village site. I clicked on 'village clerk' and it appears to be a dead link. There should be a town historian but I don't see one listed. Search 'ny town historians' and if you find one for Massena there is a chance he or she could lead you to more info. Also try www.slcha.org which is the St. Lawrence county historical association. The short answer is 'no' there is no online listing of burials in Massena (at least none that I know of). Hi Many of the Cemeteries for Massena have been filmed by the LDS (Mormon) Church and the film may be ordered at your local Family History Library and viewed on their readers for a small fee of $5.50. I have had some Massena films in the past but presently do not have any on loan. I live out of state and use these films to obtain genealogical records for many towns in St Lawrence County and other area's of NYS, US and Canada. It varies as to the dates that these Town/City/Village records in St Lawrence County may start, but some are in the early 1800's and others do not start until 1840 and a few as of 1870. However the dates these churches were founded also varies. But many of them have been filmed. Depending on the area you are researching one will find other records of Vitals, land, court, wills and etc. records that give information. Another source for information would be to write to the City Clerk or Town Clerk in Massena for records on burial permits. However you would need DO. You can also write the St Lawrence County Historical Society and ask them to check their cemetery records for you. Their fee is clearly stated on their web site at: http://slcha.org/ and go to Archives. Still another source would be to write to the Church requesting any information on DOB, DOM and DOD that their records might show. Good Luck Pat R

I'm glad this topic came up. When you print, I guess it goes to your actual printer? I usually do the snapshot thing then open a new blank Word doc and then 'paste' into the Word doc. You can paste multiple articles into a word doc and then email them to others if you want. Just wondered if anyone else has done that or has other tips and techniques to share. From: Judy in Ocala <treewright@gmail.com> Reply-To: NYOSWEGO-L@rootsweb.com To: NYOSWEGO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [NYOSWEGO] printing from these old news stories Date: Mon, 17 Apr 2006 09:01:08 -0400 The instructions here are for Adobe Reader v. 7. They will work similarly in some other versions, also. Open the PDF document you wish to print. On the toolbar click the Snapshot tool -- the icon for it looks like a camera. Your cursor turns into crosshairs. Position the crosshairs at one corner of the article you wish to print. Then drag your cursor to the corner diagonally opposite so that the whole article is enclosed. When you release the mouse button you will get a message saying that the selected area has been copied to the clipboard. If you make a mistake, just start over with the Snapshot tool. When you're satisfied that the article has been correctly selected, click the Print button. This will print only the selected portion. You may find some articles are too long for 8 1/2 x 11" paper. In that case, you may want to break up the article into sections. HI I note first that you mention Henderson and then Hounsfield, is it one or both that they lived in? Both of these townships are in Jefferson County which borders St Lawrence County and you might want to try the NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com Mailing List rather than this list. Also you do not provide very many details as to the year they were in both of these towns and what Census or Records you have found on them (Perhaps you have a Census, Will or Land Records). Did you check the Court house in Jefferson County for Naturalization records? Where did you get the information that they came via Canada? Have you check Alien records? Did they stay in Canada or come directly to NYS? Several things are important here. First you need an exact DOA (Date of Arrival) to Canada. You need a DOA to NYS. Did Belle come at the same time? Many Irish immigrants during this time came via Montreal Port . Passage was less expensive to Canada than to the NY Port. There are 98 microfilms of these ship manifests arriving in Montreal with Irish Immigrants (additional reels for other ports) for this period and they are NOT indexed which takes a great deal of time to find your immigrant and the exact date of this arrival is very important. It wasn't until 1894 that the US and Canada made an agreement to keep track of the many immigrants arriving in Canada and coming by land to the US. These records are called the St Albans Immigration Records (although they arrived in Montreal). If the DOA is as you stated these records would not apply or be of any use to you. You also would have to take in consideration name Variations (Lowry, Lowrey,Lowery) when reviewing these immigration films. It is best to have accurate and documented evidence before searching for them or you could be on a wild goose chase. Pat R
