Start at www.usgenweb.org, click 'New York' then 'select a county' and select St. Lawrence county. From that page, use the drop down list at 'select a link' and click 'anne cady' or 'census'. Her maiden name was Jesmer. They had 13 children. She did not remarry a Santimaw. She died in 1907 as Mary Kirkey. I have corresponded with Jen in the past. I don't know who her Mary Cartier/Kirkey is, possibly a cousin. I will keep watching for any mention of her, since she is a mystery.
I just completed uploading scanned images of marriage records from the Ogdensburg United Methodist Church at Caroline St., Ogdensburg, NY. There are 70 pages (mostly double pages where you need to scroll from one image to another). Barb Littlebrandt of Gouverneur did the great scanning job and numbered every third line to help people keep track of which record they are looking at when scrolling from one page to another. Start at www.usgenweb.org, click 'New York' then 'select a county' and select St. Lawrence county then use the drop down list 'select a link' and select 'church records'. You can save a direct link to that county page but I like to draw attention to the nationwide pages set up under the general umbrella of usgenweb. The pages read left to right but we could not figure out how to scan to pdf and keep the left to right orientation. If anyone reading this has done something similar or knows someone who has, please jump in on the message board and give out some hints and tips! I will be starting an idex to the pages in the near future. For now, enjoy the squiggly handwriting. Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland

I wasn't sure if you were still looking. Also Thanks to everyone that took the time to offer advice!!! I have seen that census and thought about it. It could be a possibility but I don't know. The info I am going on is from Andrew Sanimaw's marrage record (Her name is Mary Kirkie) and Francis Santimaw's death record (Mary Cartier b St Regis NY) (Louis and Mary Santimaw's sons). The birth info I am using is coming from the 1880 census that listed her as being born 1827 in NY (Mary Santimo). There always was a rumor that there was Indian deep in the genes. If Mary is a Kirkey/Cartier that could possilbly explain what had been passed down by word of mouth years ago. Jen

The 1850 census was the first to list all family members by name. Somebody jump in and correct me if I'm wrong - St. Regis the town is in NY but St. Regis the Indian reservation is partly in NY and partly in Canada? Anyway, you can check the 1850 census at ancestry.com or heritagequest.com, town by town for the Kirkey surname (assumes she is married by age 23) for a Kirkey with wife Mary. Then you can do the same for 1860, 1870 etc. There is a free online transcription of the 1880 census at www.familysearch.org. Ancestry and heritagequest are by subscription *but* your local library may have a subscription which you can access from the library or from your home internet connection using your library card number as a passkey - see your local library for details. Often your nearest college or university would have similar resources available. Even if you are not a student, if you are a local tax paying resident there is a good chance they will offer use of library resources (your tax dollars are probably providing some of the services). Some libraries have a subscription to ancestry.com or heritagequest.com that is free to library patrons. You can go to the library or (with the barcode number from your library card) access the sites from home. It helps if you have a hi speed connection or the census images can be slow to load. I'm not familiar with ancestry.com but at heritagequest you can 'search' or 'browse'. Search is what they have indexed. The majority of pages are not indexed. If you find reliable info indexed, that is terrific but if you don't find something you definitely should 'browse' page by page. Unfortunately, you listed no town in your query. If you don't know what town they lived in you have many to search. If you do know the town then you might want to re-post your query. Sources available to search can vary from town to town. The 1850 census was first to list children's names. If she married about age 20 that would be about 1846. You might find her (remember to look for married name) in 1850. With luck, she may be living near relatives. Any nearby Taylors may be relatives. Also, from rootsweb.com, first page, try 'family trees' for the Taylor surname. Hope this helps - Russ Sprague Kensington, Maryland From: PALarge@aol.com To: NYSTLAWR-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYSTLAWR] Taylor Date: Wed, 10 May 2006 11:12:40 EDT I've been getting very informative information on my DeLong query so I'll try for a Taylor family who had a daughter Lydia born ca 1826 in NY. I don't know her parents names but she married Anthony DeLong. She named her daughters Louisa, Margaret, Rachael, Josephine and Jeannette. Her only son William Adolphus. As this was Anthony's second marriage (and he didn't name any of his sons after himself or his father Peter) I would tend to think her parents names are in here somewhere.
