In 1880 he is indexed as SWENE. I don`t find him on the 1850 but William & Elizabeth Swem are in Fowler then, both born in New Jersey. This site has the Fullerville Cemetery in Fowler. William Swem is there as well as some other Swems. http://tinyurl.com/3wknu5 On the NNYLN site a search of the St. Lawrence newspapers turned up a 1917 obit for 79 year old Margaret Smith whose first husband was Fowler Swem. It gives her birthplace as Jamestown, NY & her parents as Stephen & Amelia Clancy Carpenter. It also says Fowler Swem died Feb. 20, 1884. She was my Great Grandmother. Father's name was Fowler Swem - found him in the 1850 census living in Fowler, interesting enough - but nothing in the censuses before or after. Adele married Charles William Cheney in Wegatchee on 27 Aug. 1875. CW was working as a timber estimator in a logging camp at the time and family history has it that Adele was working as a cook at the camp. They had two children, Claude and Dewitt. This has been a dead end for me for quite a few years despite the fact that I knew Swems when I was growing up in Carthage. Don't know if they were related to us, though. If anyone has any information on her family, I would greatly appreciate letting me know either on here or at [email protected] Thanks Bob Forsythe Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
