He was adopted/fostered by Captain Henry Kelley of Milan, Ohio in 1857. We have just learned that he was a Streeter according to "A Standard History of Erie County..." and that both parents had died and he was given up for adoption at that time to the Captain. We would like to know more about the Streeter family line and if anyone can help us find his parents and family that would be wonderful. He died in December 1944 as Frank Adelbert Kelley. I do not know if Frank was his original name and Adelbert was added when he assumed the name of Kelley. In his burial record in Milan, where he is buried with the other Kelleys, his mother's name was listed as Evans. Family lore says that his father died on one of the captain's ships and that the young mother could not care for him. We are not sure now whether that was true. Any help/insights/links will be greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I wrote to the Cemetery Association of Cuba, NY and they gave all the information I needed as to where he was buried, which was in the Pauper's field for low income people. If you know where they died, you could write to the Cemetery Association of that town or city. You may have some luck that way. Just address it Cemetery Association of the town or city and the town or city, and state. Good Luck, Barb Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My reason for asking in I would be willing to transcribe any lists (1810-1840) into a Word or Excel file in an attempt to locate more information in finding my gg-grandfather. I have tried the normal searches to no success, therefore I am trying to look outside the box to find any information on the BARLOW surname in hopes to find him prior to his appearance in 1838. This is the only line I have in St. Lawrence County, so I put it aside quite a while ago and never really bothered to use web resources as I was busy with other lines. The Cheney line is not a problem. It's my most direct, so to speak, because it continues to the present with my mother and her brother's family and was the first one I was interested in as a child because my grandmother talked of it a lot. Every Memorial Day, or "Decoration Day" as my grandmother called it, we'd go to Hillside Cemetery to put flowers on the graves there. I've got that family back to the first one in this country in the 1630s. Adelle was married to Charles William Cheney; his father was Charles Oscar Cheney which is why there are the two birthdates separated by 20 some years. I'm not sure where the Amelia A. comes from, although I guess it could be her real name. But my Great Aunt Ada always said she was named Ada Adelle after her grandmother and her father's first wife, Adelle Swem. I don't have a clue who Esther Cheney Day was, but will have to check with my mother because my Great Aunt Ruth Cheney was married to George Day, so there might be some relationship there. May have been George's grandmother. So again, thank you for all the help. Fowler apparently being born in New Jersey puts a new wrinkle on things since to this point all the lines on my mother's side have old North Country roots. Ah well, just more searching to do. =Bob Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I descend from James Hadsell Carr and his wife Mary thru their son James Hadsell Carr Jr and his wife Laura V. Rose. Many years ago a granddaughter of James Jr. and Laura gave me some of the information that I indicate below. I have verified some of her information with census, vital record and internet research. James Jr and Laura were married across the river from Ogdensburg in Montague, Lanark Co, Ontario. I have quite a bit of information on James Jr and his wife as the migrated to Wisconsin via Ohio. I am interested in James Jr's siblings. Children of James Hadsell Carr and Mary (last name unknown) 1) Benjamin Carr born about 1810 in Ogdensburg probably the Benjamin with wife Lucy in the 1850 census of Oswegatchie. family information says he and his family moved to Appleton, WI although I find no record of that. Children: Sally, Charles, Benjamin, Hiram, Lucy. All of these children are in the 1850 census 2) William H. Carr born 2 July 1811 in Ogdensburg, he was married to Pyrmilia (last name unknown). I have William's death certificate and I find him in the various census records until his death. He and Pyrmilia are buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Oswegatchie. A daughter named Martha is buried there but there are no dates on this stone. Children: Mary, Melissa, Orson and Martha. My only knowledge of Martha is the stone mentioned above that next to her parents. Mary married a Mr. Young. She was a widow by the 1865 census Melissa married Walter Barker and had 3 children: Sarah, William H and Charles Barker. Walter and Melissa Barker are buried in Pine Hill Cemetery Orson married Emma Howard and had 3 children: Mary Elizabeth, Harriet, and Alfred Orson Carr. Orson and Emma are buried in Pine Hill Cemetery 3) James Hadsell Carr Jr. b 8 Nov 1812 in Ogdensburg, m. Laura Vanseetheart Rose (see above) They had 10 children. If anyone wants the information on these children let me know. 4) Daniel (family records says he was a builder in Ogdensburg and later moved to California) Born between 1813 and 1820 5) George born between 1813 and 1820 6) Hiram born between 1813 and 1820 7) Orrin born between 1813 and 1820 I have no other definitive information on the last 4 sons. Questions: When and where did James Hadsell Carr Sr die? Does anyone have James Hadsell Carr Sr's wife's surname? She is Mary on various census records, but family records say she is Mary Elizabeth, but no last name is known. What is Benjamin Carr's wife Lucy's surname and her birth date and place? What are the birthdates of Benjamin Carr's children and when and where died and who married? There is another William H. Carr in Ogdensburg who served in the civil war. Is he related to this family of Carr's and if so how? What was Pyrmilia's last name and her date and place of birth? What was Mary Carr's husband Mr. Young's first name and the dates & places of birth, death and marriage? Were there any children of this couple. Did Mary remarry? Was Daniel Carr identical to Daniel D. T. Carr who owned the hotel in Ogdensburg? This Daniel D. T. Carr was married twice: Maria A Hartley and Hannah E. Gardner. I have found some further information about D D T Carr as he was referred to, but if he is not the same as the Daniel Carr who was the son of James Hadsell Carr Sr, I don't want to pursue this further information. There is a large monument in the Ogdensburg cemetery to Maria Hartley Carr and one of their children and also a monument to Hannah but husband D D T Carr is not listed in that cemetery. D D T Carr is on an 1872 passenger list arriving in San Francisco in 1872 which is a year after the death of his 2nd wife. This matches the family story that Daniel Carr moved to California Was the above George identical with the George Henry Carr who married Harriet Blackman and moved to Illinois? I have no further information on Daniel, George, Hiram or Orrin. I would appreciate any information on these families Thank you Leslie Vaughn
