Author: giles4blues Surnames: Brown, Gillette Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.saintlawrence/16183.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi there! I am descended from John and Fidelia's son, Frank. I am trying to find more information about Frank's siblings (Curtis, Harriet Minerva, and Malena May). I would love more info about Minerva. Marriage? Death? Etc. This information was given to me just today. I believe there are several threads re John Brown and his many wives and children. Hope the following helps. :) Isaac Brown, per b. Massachusetts, say about 1735, d. Guilford, Windham, Vermont before 2 Sep 1803, and a/c to History of Guilford, tradition has him buried on his farm there. Note: We have searched vital records and Brown genealogies to no avail thus far to find birth records or parents, that could place him in any of the Brown families, i.e from Eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, or wherever.Migration patterns put Rhode Island high on the list, and I am in fact descended from one of theother Browns that did migrate to Guilford, Vt from RI. His death prob occurred by 2 Sep 1803, as judging from deeds his estate is then being divided. Isaacprob m. by 1756 or so, Elizabeth __, b. say abt 1738, d. Halifax, Windham, Vt, 8 Aug 1813, bur Whitneyville Cemetery, Halidax, Vt. Note:The m. int. 4 May 1754, in Hopkinton, Middlesex, Mass of Isaac Brown to Elizabeth Millett may apply. Further research is required. The first birth ofchildren we are pretty sure about is 1 Aug 1759. But one of hissiblings is likelyb. abt 1757. Their son John resided Halifax, Vt by 1810 and assume that Elizabeth goes to reside with him after Isaac has passed. George Sheldon's A History of Deerfield, Massachusetts places an Isaac Brown in that town 1771-2. I believe that he may have been on a poll list. He may have purchased land in Guilford, Vermont around this time, but is certainly res there by 1777. Since we do not find birth records of his children, it is possible that he resided in Colrain, Mass(where there are no records, to speak of), but he apparently did not own land. Samuel Brown, s of Isaac & Elizabeth, was prob b. Massachusetts, per abt 1775 (I've seen anywhere from 1768-1778). Note: It is not known when or where he died. I am guessing that he d. in Colrain after 1815. I do not believe I see a census record for him in 1820.Samuel Brown Jr is listed in Colrain in 1830, suggesting that this Samuel Brown may still be living then. Samuel married first, 27 Apr 1798, Rachel Jones, b. Buckland, Franklin, Mass, abt 1768, died by 1815. Note: I do not presently see the record of their marriage (for some reason), but only see itattributed thusfar.I'm not sure where her birth info comes from or what it is based on either.I need to go talk to someone in Colrain about this, that I have heard of. I believe that Samuel was in Halifax, Vt in 1803 as indicated by a deed of John Brown, and that he is in Colrain by 1810. Samuel m(2) Montague, Franklin, Mass, 22 Apr 1815, Phebe Coolidge, dau of Josiah & Tabitha (-) Coolidge Children (by 1st w): Abram Brown, b. Vt, abt 1803 (per) Samuel Brown, b. Halifax, Vt, 26 Nov 1879; m. Searsburg, Bennington, Vt, 16 Nov 1841, James L Crosier Note: I have further info on Samuel Jr, John, and Malona, but do not have anything on the other four at this point, that they even existed. Did we ever get anything further from that Tony Sharpe fellow about Abram? John Brown, b. Mass, abt 1807, died Fowler, St Lawrence, NY, 17 May 1877. Note: It seems that Samuel may have moved from Halifax, Vt to Colrain, Mass by 1806-07 so that John would have been born in Colrain. Again, the paucity of records in both places is devasting to us. I have not seen a death record, but evidently someone has? John, as of Colrain, m(1) int. 17 Jan 1829, recorded in Buckland, Mass, Minerva Edson of Buckland, dau of David & Polly (Belding) Edson, b. Buckland, 25 Sep 1810, d. by abt 1845 John m(2) abt 1845, as her 2nd, Elizabeth A Marcy, dau of Ichabod & Betsy (Waterhouse) Marcy, wid of Chandler Brown, b. 29 Jul 1816, d. 9 Jul 1847, bur Whitenyville Cem, Halifax, Vt John m(3) Fowler, NY, 18 Mar 1849, Priscilla Edson, sister of Minerva Edson, wid of Josiah Shippee, who d. 1848, b. NY, 15 Feb 1826, d. 3 Mar 1892 Note: The only m. record I've seen is for the first marriage. I somehwat doubt that there was a 5th wife, but all things are possible. Am so far taking on faith the Fidelia info. Children (by 1st w): child Brown, b. 1830; d. 1831 Horace Brown, b. 1831 child Brown, b. 1832; d. 1832 Windsor Borwn, b. 1833 Mary Brown, b. 1835 Edwin Brown, b. 1837 Harriet Minerva Brown, b. 1838 Note: For the moment I give these in brief. I have not seen record of the 2 who dy Children (by 2nd w): Chandler Eugene Brown, b. Mass, abt Jan 1847; d. 1929; adopted abt 1849 by Josiah & Sally W Smith, of Westminster, Worcester, Mass; m. & had 6 c Children (by 3rd w): Minerva Brown, b. NY, 20 Jun 1857 Curtis Brown, b. Fowler, St Lawrence, NY, 26 Jun 1859 Franklin Edwin "Frank" Brown, b. Fowler, St Lawrence, NY, 28 Dec 1860 Malona "May" Brown, b. Fowler, St Lawrence, NY, 25 Nov 1867 Note: Am afraid I have no documentation for these dates and places, but again accepting what I hope is the best I've seen. I also have quite a lot on these children, and more since I read your info. And am sure I'll have more questions in another segment. But, for now, maybe you'd comment on anything that you see here. And my first specific question will be, let's see: what happened to Curtis Brown, and is it Della Smith that is his wife? Author: annecady Surnames: Classification: cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.saintlawrence/16231/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I've uploaded inventories and tombstone photographs of five additional St. Lawrence county cemeterieis to my webpage. The new cemeteries are: Stearns cemetery and Greenview Cemetery (both in Chase Mills) Chamberlain Corners cemetery in Waddington Haskell Ridge cemetery in Madrid Dailey Ridge cemetery in Norwood As always, my webpage can be found at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~stlawgen/index.HTM Also, I continue to recommend that folks use http://www.findagrave.com to add any burial information they have for people in St. Lawrence county (or anywhere else) and to also request photographs for cemeteries that aren't available yet. I've got all my listings on that site as well, though the photos are still being added. I even have a few extra listings over there including partial listings for Evergreen in Canton and Foxwood in Ogdensburg. Once those are done, they will be on my website as well, but its easier to put partial listings on find-a-grave instead of my site. I hope to finish doing an inventory of Madrid and Old Madrid cemeteries before the summer is over, but that may be the end of my efforts for this year. It feels like winter is just around the corner. Enjoy, Anne Cady Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You can find contact information for the Cemeteries office at the Ogdensburg Diocese's website (http://www.dioogdensburg.org/). They should be able to supply, possibly in return for a small donation, information from the lot card for the AUSTIN family. Since they are buried in Notre Dame cemetery, that might imply that they were members of Notre Dame parish. There's contact information for the parish on the diocesan website. Contact the parish and find out their policy on making records available for genealogy. The Ogdensburg Public Library has a genealogy collection which may have an obituary. Their website is http://www.nnyln.org/ogdensburg/ The Saint Lawrence County Historical Association has an extensive genealogy collection. More information: http://slcha.org/archives/ There's also a collection of links there; of particular interest would be the Saint Lawrence County GenWeb site and the Saint Lawrence Valley Genealogy Society.
