    1. [NYSCHENE] Groot / Groat
    2. Cliff Lamere
    3. Carol, The Dutch -oo- sounds like -o- in bone. Therefore, Groot (in Dutch) sounds like Groat (in English). They are the same surname. It comes in other spelling variations such as Groedt. Jim Groat wrote a book in 1986 about many of the Groats and it is now online. See my website at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ Look in "Other Lists of People", then New York State.
