Is anyone familiar with the Ketelhuyn/Ketel family of Albany and Schnectady? I am trying to straighten out the parentage of Margarita KETELUYN, wife of Dirk Joachim VAN DER HEYDEN (b.1725). Dirk VDH was the son of Joachim VDH (1700-1746) and Anna KETELHUYN (1696-1726). Anna was the eldest dau. of Daniel KETELHUYN & Deborah VIELE. Dirk married in 1754 at Albany to Margarita KETELHUYN of Schachticoke. Some sources have Margarita listed as Margarita KETELHUYN, b. 1724, youngest dau. of Daniel KETELHUYN & Deborah VIELE. I know there wasn't alot of choices for spouses, but is it even possible that Dirk could have married his Aunt? I think not - can someone confirm this? Other sources have this Margarita married to Christian MULLER. It seems more likely that Dirk's wife was Margarita KETELHUYN, b. 1735, dau. of Joachim KETELHUYN & Eva VROOMAN. Joachim was a son of Daniel KETELHUYN & Deborah VIELE, which would have made Dirk and Margarita first cousins. They named children - Joachim, Daniel, & Eva. However, Pearson in "First Settlers of Schenectady" (1873) lists Margarita (b1735) as wife of Gerritt VAN NESS! Can anyone shed light on this confusion? Are there any definitive sources which might clear this confusion up.
