I am trying to determine the parentage of Elizabeth SMITH, born c1760 (bet.1760-70 as per 1830 census). She was probably born in Albany or Schenectady and could have been German or Dutch heritage. Her husband was Joachim "Gershom" Vanderheyden (b. 1756 in Albany). Marriage - Dutch Reformed Church, Albany County 1779 Feb. 7. Jochum V.d. Heiden and Elisabeth Smith. They appear in the records of the Schenectady Reformed Church also: Joachim & Elizabeth (Smith) Vanderheyden witnessed the following baptisms at the Schenectady Dutch Reformed church: 12 Nov 1788 John I. Truax and Annatje Van Der Heyden bp. Jochem Van der Heyden Truax, witnesses - Joachim & Elizabeth Van der Heyden (Annatie was Joachmi's sister) 4 Oct 1794 James Wood & Maria Nesbit bp. Jochem Vander Heyden Wood, witnesses - Joachim & Elizabeth Van der Heyden 25 Oct 1801 John Syce and Elizabeth Van Der Heyden bp. John Syce, born 16 Oct 1801, witnesses - Joachim & Elizabeth Van der Heyden. (as grandparents) Gershom's 1820 Revolutionary War Pension record lists his wife as age 60, which supports a 1760 birth year. His own age on this application is also correct. They had one child only - Elizabeth Vanderheyden born c1780/1 - but I have not been able to find her baptism. The sponsors on that might reveal clues to Elizabeth Smith's parentage. Elizabeth VDH did have a son, James Smith SIZE, born 1812 in Canada. Has anyone come across an Elizabeth Smith who might fit this profile? From printed sources I found the following possibilities, but none matched closely the 1760 birth year. Can anyone RULE OUT any of the following women? Elizabeth Smith, born 3 November 1754 in Schenectady, dau. of Ephraim Smith and Elizabeth Yates Elizabeth Smith, bpt. 19 August 1764, dau. of Adam Smith & Frances Borris. Elizabeth Smith, bpt. 22 September 1765, dau. of Robert Smith & Rebecca Grout. Any leads, suggestions, help very much appreciated! Thanks. Steve Marshall
