Guilderland High School social studies teacher to host free community workshop: The History and Culture of Ireland Have you ever wanted to learn more the history, literature, music, and dance of Ireland? Well, now is your chance! Sign up today for a four-session workshop, The History and Culture of Ireland, being presented this spring by Guilderland High School social studies teacher Matt Nelligan. Session dates and topics are as follows: Session 1: May 17, 2005 - Irish history, from the country's origin through the 1840's and the Great Irish Famine Session 2: May 24, 2005 - Irish history from 1840's through today. Guest speaker Paul Murray, former national chairman of Irish Northern Aid. Session 3: May 31, 2005 - Irish immigration to America. Guest speaker Joe Dolan, chairman of the Irish American Heritage Museum. Session 4: June 7, 2005 - Irish music, dance, and folklore. Numerous guests including the Farrell School of Irish Dance, storyteller Baribre McCarthy, and local musicians. Each session meets from 4:30 - 7 p.m. at Guilderland High School, and attendees are asked to sign up for at least two sessions.
