Is there someone on the list who has the 1870 Census index for Schenectady County? Could you please look up the surname HOLTON and give me all of the listings. There should only be a couple. Thank you!! Kathy

Someone asked about the ED in 1900 census for the 800 block of Albany St. My best guess is ED 141. Ann
Albany St runs from downtown Schenectady all the way east to Colonie..one block over from State St./Central Ave
It is in Schenectady, it runs parallel with State Street(Route 5) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betty Edmonds" <bettylee_98@hotmail.com> To: <NYSCHENE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 29, 2002 4:26 PM Subject: [NYSCHENE] Where was Albany Street? > > > Can someone tell me where Albany Street was or is in Schenectady? Can someone tell me where Albany Street was or is in Schenectady? I do not know if it is in City or County of Schenectady. My grandmother told me that my elusive William Scott Borst last lived on Albany Street around 1950. She would take my Great Grandmother to see him there. The entrance to Vale coming in off Brandywine is the one that we used when we went back to Schenectady. The "front" entrance off State Street was locked up. If you go down several of the different side streets off State that dead end at the cemetery, you can walk into it. The only problem is finding a place to park your vehicle. This cemetery is huge.....you can get a map at the office that is at the entrance on State Street, otherwise one could really get lost! There is an area off the road in at Brandywine that goes over a small creek that has Revolutionary War graves. It is sort of "wild" over in this end, but I found it quite beautiful. The other entrance is off of Brandywine Ave in Schenectady. If you are comming off of State Street it will be the next entrance after St. Johns cementery on the left.. Hope this helps.. Kari Austin

My husband knows how to drive to it but, since he no longer lives there, he doesn't exactly remember how to describe the route. However, it is on 907 State Street and you can probably go to MapsOnUs and get a map. It's is next door to a large Catholic Cemetery so don't turn into the first cemetery you see coming from downtown. (He thinks there's another entrance off another street, as well.) If you can't get to MapsOnUs, go the switchboard.com, type in the name and address and then click on map. We're going ourselves in about ten days. Finally!! I have updated my Johnson/Cath/Smith/Peck and more family webpages to incorporate all the many changes people have sent me over the past year. (Okay, maybe it's been even longer than that.) I have also redesigned the site, and will continue to make some additions to it over the coming weeks. For you Essex County history buffs, I have added the 1885 history of Crown Point, which I've been promising to do for ages now! Take a look. As always, if you have questions on the data presented, or have more current information, please pass it along and now that I've mastered GoLive, my updates will be MUCH more frequent.
