Is there someone on the list who might have the 1870 Census CD index and be kind enough to look up Theodore Davis? He is listed in Schenectady in 1860 but in Montgomery County in 1880. Hello Fellow Listers I would like to wish each and everyone of you a Great Day on Thursday Regards Pat R Thanksgiving is.... Thanksgiving is a time of gratitude to God, our Creator and Provider, whose guidance and care go before us... and whose love is with us forever. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the changes, to remember that we, too, grow and change from one season of life to another. Thanksgiving is a time of changing seasons, when leaves turn golden in Autumn's wake and apples are crisp in the first chill breezes of fall. Let us remember the true meaning of Thanksgiving. As we see the beauty of Autumn, let us acknowledge the many blessings which are ours... let us think of our families and friends.. and let us give thanks in our hearts. I am looking for some help on a roadblock finding resting place of my 2nd great-grand uncle the Rev. A. E. Piper. He was born in England 6 Dec 1867, immigrated to Northampton Co, PA in 1870, naturalized in 1880. He married Elizabeth Edna Thomas in Glendon, Northampton Co in 1896. He became a Methodist minister, and had congregations in Glendon PA, Philadelphia PA, Ardmore PA, Beaver Falls PA, and last known in Wilkes-Barre PA in 1920 where he was listed on the Census with his wife and daughter Ruth E. This is the last place I can locate him in any records, so I may assume he died between 1920 and 1930. My only current lead is a reference in a Glenville Property Assessment web page (www.scpl.org/assessments/glenville/st193.html) I found listing: 33 HERITAGE PKWY Owner: PIPER ARTHUR/RUTH TRUSTEE / AE PIPER LIVING TRUST Total Assessed Value: $157,000 Front Footage: 105 x Depth: 164 Square Feet of Living Area: 2,128 Bathrooms: 2.5 Style: Colonial STAR Exemption: Basic Property Class: 210 (1 Family Res) Tax Map # 29.8-3-14 If anyone living in Glenville can tell me anything about this property, or where I could go to find more information about this living trust, I would be most appreciative. Also, if anyone has cemetery indexes for the Glenville area or information about any Methodist churches in Glenville, that may be a place to look also. Thanks, Glenn S. Piper
Thanks to all who suggested I get in touch with the Historical Society in Schenectady. I will give it a try. Again, many thanks for your help. Hi Jean, I would suggest that you contact the Schenectady County Historical Society at http://www.schist.org/ They should be able to advise you what information is available. I think that they have an obit file in their library. I do not know what geographical areas that are covered. Richard
Hi Jean, You might want to try the Schenectady County Historical Society. They have an obituary collection, but I don't know what year it starts. Here's their web site to get you started http://www.schist.org/ Jim -----Original Message----- From: Jean Oxley [mailto:djoxley@rbnet.com] Sent: Sunday, November 10, 2002 6:29 PM To: NYSCHENE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYSCHENE] Help requested with Newspapers and obits Hello to all, I feel fairly certain this subject has been mentioned in the past but I can't seem to find it. I have a number of obits I would like to find and am not sure how to go about it or what newspapers were in the area at the various times. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. What newspapers would have been available for the years spanning 1878-1928? Would Glenville have had a newspaper of its own? For some of the folks I have fairly specific dates and for others not a clue. Do the newspapers have someone who would be an archivist for the obits? Many thanks to those on the list who responded to my query re Young living in NY c1770. The only YOUNG name I have, given to my by an older relative from a family bible, is my 4ggmother, H. Cateren Young aka Katherine. She was born August 07, 1762 NY [family lore says she was born in the Mohawk Valley Area]. The only record I have located with her name on it is a baptism record for her daughter, my 3ggmother, Mary Turnbull [b. 1796] baptised 1799 Schenectady Presbyterian Church. Cateren/Katherine and her husband, Walter Turnbull and sons lived in the Duanesburgh area. I have located Walter Turnbull on 1790 & 1800 Albany Co. US Census records, and on 1810 & 1820 Schenectady Co. US Census records. Children are: Robert b. 1789; Andrew b. 1791; Thomas b. 1794; Mary b. 1796. I have located other Turnbull and Young people in the Duanesburgh area, but have no proven connection to them. I am in Anchorage AK and have been doing most of my research through the local Family History Center and the local NARA office. I welcome any suggestions regarding my Young/Turnbull research. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? HotJobs - Search new jobs daily now http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/

Hi, I use to have 2 seach engines on my page - then I updated one and removed the other - or so I thought - unfortunately I deleted the wrong one! So, if you didn't find who you were looking for, you might want to try again now that I've re-indexed the correct one. Also, I have just added the vitals of the Landt/Land/Lant family as a new link. http://members.tripod.com/~JeffriesB __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi Everyone I found this on another site and felt that it was important enough to send on: This is one most used Genealogy Libraries and many of us plan trips to research there. Please pass this information on so that everyone will be aware of this. Regards Pat R Closing Date Announcement Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library, Fort Wayne, Indiana - -------------------------------------- The Historical Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library will close for relocation on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 6pm. The department will remain closed through the month of January 2003. This is to allow time to move all our materials to our interim location. The current building will be going through renovation and expansion. ------------------------------- Will materials be available? ------------------------------- All our research materials will be available up until Saturday, December 14 at 6pm. At that time the department will be closed so we can move all our materials to our interim location. When the library opens at that location, we will have all our books, microforms and periodicals ready for research. ------------------------------ Why will we be closed? ----------------------------- Closing the department will allow us to move the whole collection at once instead of doing it piecemeal. This will ensure that the materials you are coming to Fort Wayne to use for your research will be available when you arrive, offering the full collection for our researchers. If we moved pockets of materials, what you needed for your research might not be available. By moving the whole collection at once it will ensure that the materials you are interested in will be available until we close on December 14th, and when we reopen in late January 2003. ---------------------------------------- Where will the interim location be? ---------------------------------------- The interim location of the Allen County Public Library will be at 200 East Berry St., Fort Wayne, Indiana. Locally, it is called Renaissance Square. It is 5 blocks to the east from the current library. There will be limited free parking available; there is also a pay parking garage across the street and more than 150 metered spaces in close proximity. ---------------------------------------- What will the interim location be like? --------------------------------------- One of the most exciting things about our interim location is that the genealogy collection will be a browsing collection. All the materials will be out and available for the researcher to retrieve them. Materials will not have to be paged; the shelves will be open. ---------------------------- How long will we be in the interim location? -------------------------- The projected time frame is 2-3 years. ------------------------- How can I find out more information? ------------------------- Visiting the library web site http://www.acpl.lib.in.us or phoning the department at 260-421-1225 is the best way to get current relocation information. This is a very exciting time for all of us, librarians and researchers alike. Our goal is to keep our patrons informed and continue to offer the highest level of customer service possible now, in our interim location, and in our newly renovated library. For further contact, please phone the department or email Curt Witcher, Manager, Historical Genealogy Department-ACPL at cwitcher@acpl.lib.in.us or Susan Kaufman Tavenner, Librarian, Historical Genealogy Department-ACPL at skaufman@acpl.lib.in.us
This is for our local users and visitors from a distance: Beginning Monday, September 28, we will be replacing the carpet in the central library. In use since the building opened in 1969, it gave wonderful service, but the duct tape just isn't holding it together anymore. :-) Our services will be disrupted for at least a month, and much of our collection will be unavailable during this period. Access to public computers will also be minimal, so I'm afraid fans of our Ancestry Plus subscription will have to take a break. Use of the microfilm collection will be uncertain at best. We hope services will return to normal by the beginning of November. I'll post an update when that happens.
