    3. Another place that you may want to check is Amsterdam, NY which is just northwest of Schenectady on Route 5 along the Mohawk River. Amsterdam is in Montgomery County, not Schenectady County, but many of its residents also worked at General Electric Co., or at American Locomotive (ALCO) and historically it has had a large Polish population. My wife is of Polish ancestry, and pretty much all of her family (parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles) has lived in Schenectady or Amsterdam since the early 1900's. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary Craver" <gcraver1@nycap.rr.com> To: <NYSCHENE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 13, 2003 11:51 AM Subject: Re: [NYSCHENE] WWII soldier killed in action from Schenectady > "St. Adelbert" correct spelling is St. Adalbert and it's current Pastor is > the Rev. 2. Patty M.
    3. There is a man named Walter J. Lipinski who was from somewhere in Schenectady Co. who was killed in action in WWII per the NARA records. I do not know what date he was killed. I am trying to figure out if he is a Lipinski I am looking for. My questions are: Where in Schenectady County would a Polish Catholic man be buried (if his body was returned to the US)? Is there a town/village where a Polish Catholic man of that era might more likely have lived? Is there a database or reference book or reference source giving more details about the WWII deaths in this county than the NARA source (only listing Co.; name; rank; circumstance of death; e.g., KIA, killed in action)? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Patty

More detailed information on local holdings may be found at <http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/nysnp/247.htm>; see also <http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/nysnp/147.htm> for holdings at the New York State Library in Albany. > Lastly, what newspaper would be the most likely one for the German population > to use in the late 1800's and early 1900's and is it on microfilm? 3. I am looking for the family of Ernst Koepke/Kupp/Cupp. I have found out that my great grandmother Julia Jennie Koepke was born in Schenectady on 15 Oct. 1865.
