George Mackey may have been born along the Mohawk River, ca 1819/20. I have no information on his ancestry. He met Ann Eliza Banta, of Saratoga Co., NY maybe near Ballston or Eastline. They married in 1843 and settled in Marquette Co., WI. The Mackey line descends from son Adelbert George Mackey. The DC of another son, Frank Percy Mackey, states that his father, George, was born along the Mohawk River. What is the significance of this? Were there camps along the Mohawk River. Searching for a Mackey family, living in Oneida, Herkimer, Montgomery, Schnectady or Albany Counties, ca 1819/20. (The Mohawk River flows through these counties). Thanks, Ron Yieding Palm Desert, CA

I will take up your offer and ask the Schenectady County Library for those lookups; As you say $5 per lookup is very reasonable. I did have other suggestions about contacting the Vale Cemetery itself, which I already have done a few years back, and yes I did receive some useful info from the burial index cards. But of course these in turn raised more questions, so after thinking on this for a bit, I've decided to go for the newspapers next. Thankyou everybody for the replies. Dave Cripps
I Live right here in Schenectady and the zip code for Vale would be 12307.. Just thought that might help.. And your right it would get there anyways using the 12304 but thought I would just be helpful for once.. Good luck.. :O) Kari (Carpenter) Austin
The website for Schenectady Historical Society is, <A HREF="http://www.schist.org/">http://www.schist.org/</A> You can contact the librarian at librarian@schist.org The address is not Clinton St., but it is 32 Washington Ave. 12305.
Although I am not sure exactly what information you want from the newspaper look-up, another source of information which might be helpful would be the index cards/book of records that is kept by the office of Vale Cemetery. I do remember reading (perhaps on this list??) that the office keeps the records and would let you have the info that they have on an individual. Perhaps if you wrote to them they could provide you with more information. They sometimes have birthdate, next of kin/informant, and cause of death, etc. Certainly worth a try, I would think. I would enclose a self addressed stamped envelope (which would encourage a reply!) in the request, as I don't think that they charge a fee. Vale Cemetery 907 State St. Schenectady, NY 12304 I am not sure of the zip code, but it should get it there anyway, as it is a Schenectady zipcode. ----Original Message Follows---- From: "David Cripps" <dcripps@iprimus.com.au> Reply-To: NYSCHENE-L@rootsweb.com To: NYSCHENE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYSCHENE] Locating some newspaper obituarys Date: Sat, 9 Aug 2003 13:23:36 +1000 MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: from lists2.rootsweb.com ([207.40.200.39]) by mc7-f14.law1.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.5600); Fri, 8 Aug 2003 20:23:59 -0700 Received: (from slist@localhost)by lists2.rootsweb.com (8.12.8/8.12.8) id h793NRC6013958;Fri, 8 Aug 2003 21:23:27 -0600 X-Message-Info: vAu4ZEtdRigLaEiTQQBlDFllFf5O1Jj7 Resent-Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2003 21:23:27 -0600 X-Original-Sender: dcripps@iprimus.com.au Fri Aug 8 21:23:27 2003 Old-To: <NYSCHENE-L@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <000501c35e25$9fa816e0$78ea32d2@xp1600> X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook, Build 10.0.4510 Importance: Normal X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1165 X-MIME-Autoconverted: from quoted-printable to 8bit by lists2.rootsweb.com id h793NRke013926 Resent-Message-ID: <XU0VbD.A.0ZD.vkGN_@lists2.rootsweb.com> Resent-From: NYSCHENE-L@rootsweb.com X-Mailing-List: <NYSCHENE-L@rootsweb.com> archive/latest/591 X-Loop: NYSCHENE-L@rootsweb.com Precedence: list Resent-Sender: NYSCHENE-L-request@rootsweb.com Return-Path: NYSCHENE-L-request@rootsweb.com X-OriginalArrivalTime: 09 Aug 2003 03:23:59.0530 (UTC) FILETIME=[AC6050A0:01C35E25] I've come to grinding halt on some of my descendants who lived in and around the Schenectady area, but I have narrowed down 2 people who were buried at Vale Cemetery. The New York State Library charges 10 cents for copies from microfilm or fisch or scanned copies from books. The scanners and some microcopy machines are connected to a computer and you buy a disk for $1.00. The Archives and Manuscripts charge 25 cents and do the copies for you. In the library there is a change machine, and some scanners and copiers will take dollar bills and give change. The Schenectady Historical Society charges 20 cents a copy for letter size copies and 25 cents for larger size. Ann
Hi Ruth, The Onondaga County Library in Syracuse has a number of large books that contain photo copies of newspaper articles. These books have been indexed. Photo copies must be made by a librarian and cost $.25 each. They also have a large microfilm section. At the Schenectady County Public Library, our photocopiers have bill changers but our microfilm reader/printers only take dimes. You may get change at the circulation desk, but if you plan to do a lot of copies bringing rolls of dimes would be a good idea. One of our reader/printers is equipped with a scanner, so if you bring a Zip disk you can save the images instead of printing. We're still feeling our way with that, so you may want to contact me to start you off. I believe the New York State Library has recently introduced something similar, but I don't know the details.
