NYSCHENE-L@rootsweb.com > Can anyone tell me to what church, the Rev. Mr. Cooper may have been affiliated in March 1826? The First Baptist Church. Joel Monroe's _Schenectady, Ancient and Modern_ says: "In the fall of 1823 the Rev. Nathan N. Whitney who had been affiliated with the Dutch denomination became the pastor of the Baptist flock. The Sunday school was organized in 1823, also a lot secured and laid out for a burying ground. A building lot was also purchased in 1825 on Center street, the corner stone of the first church being laid in the fall of that year. This year the Rev. John Cooper was installed as pastor, his salary being fixed at $150.00. As soon as the basement of the church was usable the services and Sunday school were held there." George Roberts (_Old Schenectady_) says he was there from 1825 to 1827. Bob Sullivan <rsullivan@sals.edu> Schenectady County Public Library (NY) <http://www.scpl.org/> Schenectady Digital History Archive <http://www.schenectadyhistory.org/> My grandparents were married by a Rev. Cooper too. They were Roy Dawson and Jessie Leishman. They were married September 2, 1915 in Albany by a Rev. Cooper. If he was in the First Baptist Church in Sch'dy from 1825 to 1827, what church in Albany would he have been at in 1915? I know my grandparents were members of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Sch'dy for many years. In fact, my parents were married there and were members there too until we moved out of NY. I just received a photocopy of a marriage announcement noted in "The Schenectady Cabinet" of 8 March 1826. It reads as follows: MARRIED--In this city, on Saturday evening last, by the Rev. Mr. Cooper, Mr. HIRAM PERKINS to Miss MARGARET BUYS. Can anyone tell me to what church, the Rev. Mr. Cooper may have been affiliated in March 1826? Would also like to communicate with anyone familiar with this couple. Thanks, Gladys

Hi - I am looking for an obit or confirmation of place of death for Magdalena Thuli Fuhrer, my great-grandmother. She supposedly died on 1 Oct 1913 in Schenectady. She is buried in Utica and I can't get her death certificate - it's always at the other city from where I am asking for it. If anyone can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it. Hi folks. Am in search of information regarding Thomas GENNESSY, born in Carbondale PA in 1865, who disappeared after the 1900 census (likely due to spelling variations of his surname) and was found again in 1930 in SCHENECTADY NY -The 1930 census states that Thomas worked for GE. Thomas GENNESSY married Ellen TIERNEY in Carbondale PA, and was widowed by the time of the 1930 census. Thanks in advance for your help! Just want everyone to know I went to the cemetery to pay my respects today (My mom b-day) and went to the ofice and saw John. What a BLESSING! He literally handed me the index file right from the cabinet, and I marked the ones I needed copies of andy within a half hour I walked out with information on three families.....For those that don't know, the cemetery charges $1.00 a copy, BUT, you can fit 4 index cards on one sheet of paper. So all in all I got 16 records for $4. They are on their winter hours gates only open until 4:30pm M-F, and the office on Sat is only open 8:30 - noon. I have a Smith connection in my family, so I have to narrow down my search before I go back, but I found some more information on the Kimmerle side, including my ggrandmother maiden name of BAUS, if anyone has this name can you contact me..and found info on the Jordan side...which looks to me like they are all from Troy originally after coming from Ireland...Any how...I hope this bit of info! rmation helps at least one person...Lauri --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Joachim Vanderheyden married Elizabeth SMITH in Albany in 1779: 1779 Feb. 7. Jochum V.d. Heiden and Elisabeth Smith. They had one child, Elizabeth Vanderheyden who was born c1780 (I'm still looking for her baptism). The family was living in both Albany and Schenectady at different times, but seems to have settled in Schenectady after 1790. Who were the parents of Elizabeth SMITH? According to Joachim (or Gershom as he was better known) in his 1820 Pension Application, his wife Elizabeth was age 60 - which would make her birthyear c1760. Joachim's age was 64 which agreed with his 1756 birthdate (son of Dirk Vanderheyden & Margarita Kettelhuyn). I have been unable to locate an Elizabeth Smith in either county that fits the bill. She may possibly have been the Elizabeth SMITH, bpt. 1754 in Schenectady, dau of Ephraim SMITH & Elizabeth YATES. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Does anyone have access to the "Trouw Boek" of the (First) Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Schenectady, New York - 1694-1852. (1986) Donald A. Keefer? If so, do Joachim/Gershom VDH and Elizabeth SMITH appear as baptism sponsors to anyone? This might help confirm her family. Any help appreciated.
