    2. I don't have a Bieber, but I notice in your list a Van Eps. I have a Lansing W. Van Epps, son of Samuel and Helen (Teller). He died probably in Albany on April 6, 1896. 1. History of General Electric, Alco and more - Centennial of the Schenectady Electrical Handbook
    2. Robert Sullivan
    3. In September 1904, an International Electrical Congress was held in St. Louis, Missouri. In conjunction with this conference, the American Institute of Electrical Engineers published the Schenectady Electrical Handbook. In a manner similar to the regional "Tech Valley" marketing campaign a century later, the Schenectady Electrical Handbook showcases the industrial prowess of Schenectady. About two-thirds of the book is devoted to the wonders of General Electric, with the remainder discussing the American Locomotive Company (Alco), the Schenectady Railway Company, the Hudson River Power Company and the engineering expertise at Union College. Included among the dozens of illustrations are maps of train routes and a detailed layout of the General Electric plant. I am pleased to announce that the Schenectady Digital History Archive is celebrating the centennial of the Schenectady Electrical Handbook by making it available online at: <http://www.schenectadyhistory.org/resources/seh/> The Schenectady Digital History Archive, a service of the Schenectady County Public Library, has been making Schenectady County history and genealogy available online since 1996. 1. History of the Schenectady Patent
    2. Robert Sullivan
    3. I am pleased to announce a major new addition to the Schenectady Digital History Archive. Jonathan Pearson's _A History of the Schenectady Patent in the Dutch and English Times, being contributions toward a history of the lower Mohawk Valley_ was published in 1883 and is one of the seminal works on Schenectady history and genealogy, containing detailed discussions of the original settlement, lists of landowners and maps. Descriptions of Dutch culture in early New York and regional events of the colonial and revolutionary periods make this a useful resource for upstate New York history beyond the borders of Schenectady County. <http://www.schenectadyhistory.org/resources/patent/> The Schenectady Digital History Archive, a service of the Schenectady County Public Library, has been making Schenectady County history and genealogy available online since 1996. 3. Attn: Barbara Jeffries Barbara, I was just reading over your email and noticed a few familiar surnames I just saw on my visit yesterday to Glenville, Schenectady County, NY. I was looking for my ancesters in West Glenville. Found one very old small cemetary on West Glenville Road where I found my great great great grandparents. I couldn't find any "name" for this cemetary, but you may want to check this one out. Anyway, after I left that cemetary and was heading back toward the main road, Sacandaga Road (Route 147) I found a Dutch Reformed Church on the corner of West Glenville Road and Sacandaga Road and another old cemetary on its property, behind (sort of) the church. This is where I remember seeing some of the names you are seaching for. If you haven't gotten there yet, you may want to do so. Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near there (was just there visiting a sick relative). In fact I was walking around in the midst of surnames in my family (Van Epps, Dawson, Clapper, Milroy, Swart, DeGraff, Bradt, to name a few). These are the names I definitely remember seeing there that you listed in your email: WEATHERWAX LINK DEWITT CLAPPER Speaking of Clapper. Are you researching this surname too? My great grandmother was a Clapper (Grace Clapper, 1882-1921). I have pictures of her and her parents but I don't know her parents' names or any information on them. By the way, I found her and her husband, Frank Dawson, in this cemetary as well. Deb (Goodrow) Gallagher

The staff both at this library and the genealogical members at > the NYS library are absolutely terrific and wonderful to us researchers. > Thank you all. Thanks for the kind words, Ruth. I'll mention to the group that what Ruth is referring to is our computer connected to a microfilm reader/printer which has a scanner accessory; instead of printing @ 10 cents per page you may save images to the PC, which includes a 250MB Zip drive so you may carry your images home. We don't have CD writers on our public computers, but if you bring a blank CD we can work something out. The scanner produces compressed TIFF images which are of very good quality, frequently better than what you'd get just printing from film. Ruth cropped her images to just the section she wanted and at 600 dots per inch (which you'd want to get a good reproduction from the old film) they ranged from 2.5 to 5MB. The scanning software is relatively easy to operate; I qualify that because as any of you who have used a scanner know, the details can be quirky and sometimes what works for one part of a page may be too light or dark on another part. Because the scanner will capture whatever is on the screen of the reader, it is possible (using a lens setting which shrinks an image to fit on the screen) to scan an entire newspaper page. Even if you can't read it on the reader, a 600 dpi image should be very legible when enlarged. We've had this available for about a year and a half, but haven't publicized it widely because not everyone felt comfortable assisting researchers with it. We have a better idea of what we're doing now. :-) If you plan to come and spend the day on it, the best thing to do is e-mail me and we'll arrange something; the computer is also used for general word processing and we'd want to make sure it's available for you. 1. Attention Library Staff
    2. Sorry to do this through the list, but I need to find someone I spoke with at the Schenectady Library last week. I cannot find his name nor email address in all my "stuff". I had put a few obits on the hard drive of a computer prior to switching to getting hard copies. The gentlemen had said he could email them to me if he did not see me before I left the library. We missed each other prior to his leaving at the end of the day, and I would really like to get those obits. The staff both at this library and the genealogical members at the NYS library are absolutely terrific and wonderful to us researchers. Thank you all. Ruth Cherecwich

    3. I have transcribed and indexed the Irish born from three alien declaration films that were filed in Rensselaer County Court in Troy NY from 1859 to 1884. They cover not only Rensselaer county but many from the surrounding counties and MA and there are over 4,000 entries. You can access them at the Rensselaer County website at: http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/troy/ On the homepage, at the top, under Genealogy, click on Naturalization/Citizenship. You will notice at the top of the Naturalization webpage, I have included a new search engine to make your search a bit easier. I also have links to these records on my website (URL under my name), on the Troy webpage. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton
