I am trying to determine the parentage of Elizabeth SMITH, born c1760 (bet.1760-70 as per 1830 census). She was probably born in Albany or Schenectady and could have been German or Dutch heritage. Her husband was Joachim "Gershom" Vanderheyden (b. 1756 in Albany). Marriage - Dutch Reformed Church, Albany County 1779 Feb. 7. Jochum V.d. Heiden and Elisabeth Smith. They appear in the records of the Schenectady Reformed Church also: Joachim & Elizabeth (Smith) Vanderheyden witnessed the following baptisms at the Schenectady Dutch Reformed church: 12 Nov 1788 John I. Truax and Annatje Van Der Heyden bp. Jochem Van der Heyden Truax, witnesses - Joachim & Elizabeth Van der Heyden (Annatie was Joachmi's sister) 4 Oct 1794 James Wood & Maria Nesbit bp. Jochem Vander Heyden Wood, witnesses - Joachim & Elizabeth Van der Heyden 25 Oct 1801 John Syce and Elizabeth Van Der Heyden bp. John Syce, born 16 Oct 1801, witnesses - Joachim & Elizabeth Van der Heyden. (as grandparents) Gershom's 1820 Revolutionary War Pension record lists his wife as age 60, which supports a 1760 birth year. His own age on this application is also correct. They had one child only - Elizabeth Vanderheyden born c1780/1 - but I have not been able to find her baptism. The sponsors on that might reveal clues to Elizabeth Smith's parentage. Elizabeth VDH did have a son, James Smith SIZE, born 1812 in Canada. Has anyone come across an Elizabeth Smith who might fit this profile? From printed sources I found the following possibilities, but none matched closely the 1760 birth year. Can anyone RULE OUT any of the following women? Elizabeth Smith, born 3 November 1754 in Schenectady, dau. of Ephraim Smith and Elizabeth Yates Elizabeth Smith, bpt. 19 August 1764, dau. of Adam Smith & Frances Borris. Elizabeth Smith, bpt. 22 September 1765, dau. of Robert Smith & Rebecca Grout. Any leads, suggestions, help very much appreciated! Thanks. Steve Marshall

Hi Virginia, Jacob Tyssen Van der Heyden and his wife Anna Hals are my 8th great grand parents. Many of my Van Der Heydens lived in the Albany area. Who are you looking for? Richard From the shores of Grand Traverse Bay

Unfortunately no, I do not have Catharina's parents. The information on the Catharina Sipperly/Cipperly marriage to Phillip Petrus Haner that I have came from George C. Mason (GMason5598@aol.com) and his George Mason Genealogy. There is additional information on Phillip Petrus Haner - Catharina Sipperly/Cipperly's son George Hendrick Hayner and his marriage to Margaret Fellows. Their daughters were born as Margaret Maria b. 1828, twin daughters Catharina b. 1831 (she died 14 Apr 1912 in Halfmoon, Saratoga County, NY) and Carolina b. 1831; Eliza Regina b. ca. 1832/1833 in Columbia County, NY & d. 1890 in West Sand Lake, Rensselaer Co., NY; Charlotte b. 27 Aug 1834; Lavina b. 19 Oct 1836 & d. 1 Sep 1932 both in West Sand Lake; and Deliah b. 1 Feb 1841 & d. 5 Apr 1903. Eliza Regina Hayner married Philip Craver 4 Jan 1850 (Wynantskill Dutch Reformed Church). They had Seward Craver b. Nov/Dec 1854; Alvin Newton Craver b. Jul 1859; Charles Craver b. ca. 1872, and Arthur Craver (no dates). There likely are births missing from this list between 1860 and 1872. Charlotte Hayner married John G. Bloomingdale 25 Jan 1854 .... no other information. Lavina married George W. Ketchum 25 Jan 1854 in West Sand Lake, and they had sons George S. Ketchum, Eugene C. Ketchum, Milton DeFreest Ketchum and Sanford Ketchum (b. 1864). Sandford married Sara Mary Defreest (DeForest). Deliah married Willaim Clute in 1858. I used to work (10 to 15 years ago) with a Robert (Bob) Hayner who is a distant Hayner cousin of mine. He loaned me a Hayner book that someone in his branch of the family had published. Before returning that book, I copied many of the pages but have so far never gotten around to extracting information for my database. The copied pages are somewhere in one of two 5-drawer storage cabinets with other research notes and documents in my basement. Bob Hayner always said that his branch of the family had founded Haynersville which is east of Troy between Brunswick Center and Raymertown on NY Route 7 ... approximately four miles southwest of the southern tip of the Tomhannock Reservoir. I have Weatherwax marriages to Reisdorph, Loscher, Lape, Craver, Feller and Uleyn (Uline) but none currently on record with Cipperly. ----- Original Message ----- From: "PJS" <pendon@charter.net> To: <NYRENSSE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2005 12:25 PM Subject: RE: [Rensselaer] Roll Call - HAYNER/HANER > Thanks... do you know parents of Catharina Cipper who married Phillip > Petrus > Haner? Hello All, This is to let you know that I have updated My Hayes Family Website at www.angelfire.com/ga4/myhayes_family I have added about 4,000 names to the file during the past year. There are now over 11,400 names in the file. Living persons are listed, but no information other than their name ismentioned. I have also 777 persons who immigrated to America from foreign countries. The majority of these families are from Holland. I have taken many of the major families back to their home countries. I have also added 63 persons to the direct ancestor list. There are now 320 names on that list. A couple of the families go back to 1500. There are also pages for 10 counties in eastern New York. I have Links on these pages that might help anyone researching one of these counties. Richard From the shores of Grand Traverse Bay
