Letter #59 Envelope addressed: Mrs. F. D. Wheeler Saratoga Springs N. Y. Camp near White Oak Church Va February20-63 Dear mother I arrived (home---underlined) last evening, having been three days on the road. I came through from Saratoga to Washington in (two--crossed out) a day and a night, but arrived to late for the Aguia Creek boat so staid in Washington over night. I attended the evening session of Congress with Col McKean, he took me on the floor of the house so I had a good chance to hear the debates on the bill to indemnify the President for arresting (------------) persons. May of Baltimore made a secesh speech, and was firmly answered by two other Maryland Union Representatives. I was much interested. The mud here is very deep & it was a hard march for me to come up from the landing last Pg2 night. It seems like getting home again to get in my old tent. There is nothing now to write so I will close as the mail is going out. Write soon Your Son Luther -- Ruth Barton mrgjb@sover.net Dummerston, VT
