Hi Leslie I'm woprking from this info. JOhn Ferguson was b to John Ferguson abt 1776 in Saratoga Town Albany county, His neighbors were Christian Fisher and Unk Francisco. Chrisitan Fisher moved fisrt to Ontario county, followed by John Ferguson and John Francisco. The Cronks were a very, very poor family. Hi Bob, The Fergusons whom I have in the tax records are: Daniel - 1787 Ballstown District Jacob - 1786-Saratoga West; 1787 - Saratoga West; 1788-Stillwater Peter - 1779 Half Moon; 1786 HalfMoon; 1788 Halfmoon resident William - 1779 Saratoga (March 2nd list) Since the early settlers came in extended family groups, I need to ask if you know any thing about the above listed Daniel, Jacob, Peter or William Ferguson? The fact that your John Ferguson was not paying taxes does not mean that your John Ferguson is not there. All that this means is that your John Ferguson was not paying taxes. There are several reasons to explain why he may not be paying real estate taxes, including but not limited to, his lease did not require him to pay real estate taxes or he may have been in the employ of General Schuyler, who owned most of the present day Town of Saratoga in the 1770s. Christian Fisher is not in the tax lists either. The same reasons as listed for John Ferguson for this may apply to Christian Fisher, as well. The only Fisher, on whom I have any information so far, is ____ Fisher, for whom I have no first name. He is not on the tax lists, but I know that he was there because he is mentioned in General Burgoyne's Orderly Book. (Fisher, ________ West side of Hudson, his house is mentioned in Burgoyne's Orderly book Volume II at page 121 in relation to a forage party in the town of Saratoga on September 28, 1777.) John Francisco also is not in the tax lists. Again the same reason that applied to John Ferguson may apply to John Francisco John Cronk shows up on the 1787 Ballstown Tax List. Is this John Cronk your ancestor? If I don't turn off this machine, I'll be late for church. I have a few more places to look for data. However, I have to tell you how very exciting it is to learn about people who lived in the present day Town of Saratoga who are NOT on the tax lists.
