I am researching John Carr b. abt 1755-60. He had a daughter baptised in Schodack, Rennselaer in 1788. I thought this could be him in the 1790 census (one male, 2 females). He immigrated to Canada in 1796 while land was being offered to settlers. By then he had 4 children. His patent was issued to John Kerr. His sons were named Cornelius, Abraham and James. There are a number of his descendants here in Canada named Abraham, Joseph, James and John. The only Abraham and Joseph Carrs in New York at that time that I have found were Van Der Kars. It is not clear to me that they are the same line as the Carrs. I believe the John Carr I am researching is Scottish and may have descended from a Kerr, Keer, Caer or Car who arrived with early Dutch settlers in the 1600s. He married Maria Van Wickley of Nassau county. He had strong ties with the Dutch and German communities. Ebenezer seems to be a descendant of Caleb Carr and Margarett Adams. James Carr appears to be of yet another Carr line. Joyce Carr "Leslie B. Abraham Carr's name appears on the 1788 Ballstown Tax District for Albany County, NY. However when one looks at the 1790 Census Return for Albany County neither of my taxpayers are listed on the U.S. Census Return for the districts in which they were listed as taxpayers. The men with the surname of Carr who are listed on the 1790 Census Return are the following: CARR, CHARLES (1790 U.S. Census) NY, ALBANY, STEPHENTOWN, ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CARR, EBENEZER (1790 U.S. Census) NY, ALBANY, BALLSTOWN, ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CARR, EDWARD (1790 U.S. Census) NY, ALBANY, STEPHENTOWN, ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CARR, JAMES (1790 U.S. Census) NY, ALBANY, BALLSTOWN, ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CARR, JOHN (1790 U.S. Census) NY, ALBANY, WATERVLIET, ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CARR, JOHN (1790 U.S. Census) NY, ALBANY, BALLSTOWN, ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CARR, JOHN (1790 U.S. Census) NY, ALBANY, FREEHOLD, ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CARR, JOSEPH (1790 U.S. Census) NY, ALBANY, STEPHENTOWN, ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CARR, SAMUEL (1790 U.S. Census) NY, ALBANY, STEPHENTOWN, ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CARR, WILLIAM (1790 U.S. Census) NY, ALBANY, WATERVLIET, Does anyone know if Ebenezer, James and/or John Carr are any relation to either Abraham or Joseph Carr, who were previously listed as taxpayers?
