August 5 - 12, 2007 Historical Week in the Town of Saratoga and Village of Schuylerville "Prelude to Freedom" TURNING POINT PARADE: Prelude to Freedom Sunday, August 5 (1 pm) Last year's parade included over 100 separate units with all the elements that make up a crowd-pleaser...16 marching bands/musical units, fire and rescue, law enforcement, re-enactors and military units past and present, the famed Keystone Kops, floats, etc. Each year we try to improve the line of march without compromising the parade's "small town flavor". We also try to keep viewing time under 2 hours so traffic doesn't get too backed up. We hope that you will consider joining us to help us celebrate! FORT HARDY WALKING TOUR Monday, August 6 (7 pm) Join Town Historian and NYS French and Indian War Commissioner Sean Kelleher for a walking tour (about a mile) of Fort Hardy - a French and Indian War fort in Schuylerville. Schuylerville Visitors Center at Fort Hardy Park. RESEARCHING YOUR SCHUYLERVILLE AREA ANCESTORS Tuesday, August 7 (1 pm) Get help with research strategies for finding Schuylerville ancestors from Deputy Town Historian and Genealogist Patricia Peck. Schuylerville Public Library, Ferry St., Schuylerville OLD MILLS OF SCHUYLERVILLE AND VICTORY Wednesday, August 8 (10-4 pm, speakers at 2 pm) Come to a special exhibit on the Old Mills of Schuylerville and Victory. Photos will be displayed of the various Mill sites and Mayor John Sherman and Supervisor Tom Wood will speak on the impact of industrialization in the area. Refreshments will be served. Schuylerville Visitor's Center. MUSIC ON THE HUDSON: JUG BAND - WORKING STIFFS Thursday, August 9 (7 pm) Enjoy a free concert. Bring your chairs and picnic baskets to the Old Schuylerville Beach or anchor your boat in the Hudson River. Old Schuylerville Beach, Fort Hardy Park. WALKING TOUR OF PEARL STREET Friday, August 10 (7 pm) Join Village of Schuylerville Historian Kristina Saddlemire for a walking tour of Pearl Street from Ferry to Spring Street. Learn about 19th century Schuylerville residents. Meet at corner of Ferry and Pearl Street. SPIN TIL YOU DYE Saturday, August 11 (11 am - 3 pm) Rock Day Spinners demonstrate fiber spinning and natural dyeing over an open fire. Schuyler House, Rt. 4 Schuylerville 18th CENTURY DAY Sunday, August 12 (Noon - 5 pm) Step back in time at the historic Schuyler House! The grounds abound with 18th century activities, including puppet shows, music, oxen cart rides, basket weaving, chair caning, tinsmithing, and much more.
