    1. Francis K. Winney Cemetery
    2. Hello One of the mysteries that we have discovered in Saratoga County is the location of Francis K. Winney Cemetery. Cornelius Durkee copied the cemeteries in Saratoga County in 1876-1878 including the Francis K. Winney Cemetery. According to Durkee, he located the cemetery on the road from Schuylerville to Saratoga Springs(Route 29 today) about one mile west from Grangerville and was between the road and Fish Creek. We have located some stones from Durkee's original list which were relocated in other cemeteries with other family members. One stone from that list lies in a front yard of a home just about where it should be located but is on the opposite side of the road. In the Winney family genealogy, they indicate burial in the Francis K. Winney cemetery past 1900 but I have spoken to some of the older residents in that immediate area and they do not remember any cemetery along in that area in 1917 and 1926 when they lived right at that point. A note by someone stated that before the two bridges of Grangerville, which cross the Fish Creek, the road from Schuylerville to Saratoga (Route 29 today) followed the creek more closely. Which side of Grangerville did Durkee start his measurement from? >From the bridge by Hayes Rd. on the west side of Grangerville, if you travel one mile, you come out somewhere near The Old Saratoga Home and Garden. Any information about this cemetery and the movement of the stones, would be greatly appreciated.
