Greetings: Seems there are a number of new folk on the list; so I would like to explain where, what and for whom I am searching. My maternal grandfather Robert Foote moved from Wisconsin to the Town of Moreau in 1903, so the family has no early history in Moreau. He purchased his farm from Ervin and Ann SWEET. They, in turn purchased it from Harriet and Thomas MURRAY. Harriet purchased the farm from her father John THOMPSON. John purchased it in two parcels, one of 100 acres from Minerva LEWIS, relict of Sanford LEWIS (son of Moses LEWIS) in 1856, and 11.5 acres in 1863 from the estate of Truman Hamlin, whose daughter Amelia married John THOMPSON. We have all of the deeds back to the 1850's but it would appear that Moses and Sanford died intestate, leaving the land to their heirs, presumably with no paper trail. Moses, it is claimed came to Moreau in 1790, and the Census agrees. Mom claimed our brick house was built in 1792, a believable scenario, considering its construction. 1) Is anyone on the list tracing the THOMPSON, HAMLIN and LEWIS families? (There are many Thompsons; this is not the Judge, but a son of one of six brothers (Hugh) who moved to Northumberland before 1795.) 2) Does anyone know anyone who is interested in old houses? Architecture, trying to determine period of building by the construction??? History of old Moreau houses, etc. ??? regards, john o. John F.
