    3. I was asked about the availability of the 1845 state census of Saratoga County; the Family History Library does not have it listed in their catalog. That does not mean that it no longer exists, but the FHL in Salt Lake City doesn't have a copy. Check the NY State Archives and the Saratoga County Courthouse or History Society. Tim - since your Richard BURNEY did own property, check the probate records to see if he left a will or if the county courts divided up his property. These records may give clues as to where children, who did not show up on the census in Waterford, may have been, and who daughters may have married. Also check the land records as he may have sold part or all of his property before he died. Check the County Courts for the naturalization records, and get ALL of them because the naturalization certificate in and of itself usually doesn't have much information, it's the declaration of intent, and the application for naturalization that is more apt to give a town name from the parent country. If you've checked the 1850 indexes and been unable to find them, and since they weren't in Waterford in 1855, it MAY mean that they came into NY between 1855 and 1860. That narrows down the search for passenger lists somewhat. Unfortunately that time frame is not indexed for the lists coming into NYC. But I've found that these lists seldom name the town or county of the immigrant's country. My SCHMID/SMITHs arrived in 1857, and the passenger lists just list Switzerland as to where they were from.
