Hello Saratoga people, As most of you know, Cornelius Durkee compiled his Epitaghs with the recording of stones found in cemeteries all over Saratoga Co. in 1876-77. Did a wonderful job for the most part EXCEPT he did not care for Catholics so he didn't copy any that were around. As a matter of fact, in copying Greenridge Cemetery in Saratoga Springs, he notes that in the front of the cemetery along Lincoln Ave is what is known as the "Catholic" section which he states he chose not to copy. Well, he also noted that in his opinion the Irish Catholics did little for Saratoga Springs so he chose not to copy it for that reason with the exception of a few "notable" people. Amongst the few notable people was Ellen Harden Walworth, step-daughter of Reuben Hyde Walworth - last Chancelor of NYS. Well, that was not what she was noted for as much as being one of the founders of the DAR. (I cannot tell you who the others were) While discussing all of the cemeteries that are in progress or already copied that we can get up on the Saratoga GenWebPage, I suddenly realized that there did not seem to be a compiled list of the Catholic cemeteries. Hmm, how might we start that list? >>>>ATTENTION<<<<< If your records show your ancestor in any Catholic or ethnic cemetery in Saratoga County, please just send this list the name of the cemetery and the town it is in. Brief discription or location might be good also. AND if you have ever seen a completed list, map or anything else compiled that we might try and get a copy, that would really be great!! Did you visit the church or caretaker? Please help us to obtain as much of this information as possible. We are going to need more volunteers to copy cemeteries and others to compile these into databases. put Saratoga Cemetery in Subject window, please.
