    1. [NYSARATO] Chestney, Davis, Bemis, Crawford plus more
    2. Hello Charles I ran and got the laptop that Bob Crawford gave me when he got a new one. It has the Crawford and Allied families (over 27,000) to check on your Crawford connections. WELL, I had the laptop on my lap and looking at this computer's screen and tried to use the mouse for this computer to move the pages on the laptop. DUH! Could not figure out what was wrong. It's late at night and am getting ready to head for Syracuse and Watertown tomorrow. Here is what I found: William Chestney b England d 22Oct 1799 m Elizabeth McNutt d 02 May 1840 Saratoga Springs, Saratoga, NY Son of William Chestney and Elizabeth McNutt: James W. Chestney b 17 Mar 1797 d 30 Nov 1843 Saratoga Springs, Saratoga, NY m 20 May 1827 Sarah C. Davis dau/o Darius Davis and Mary Crawford, dau/o Daniel b 13 Nov 1808 d 07 Aug 1838 Son of James Chestney and Sarah C. Davis William Chestney b 21 Dec 1832 Saratoga Springs, Saratoga, NY d 21 Jun 1906 m 27 Aug 1856 Jane Tanner b 27 Nov 1836 NYS d 15 Apr 1905 Children of William Chestney and Jane Tanner Sherman Veeder Chestney b 17 Sep 1858 Charles J. Chestney b 08 Jul 1861 Eunice Ann Chestney b 07 Nov 1864 There is more plus the Crawfords go back to Tyrone, Ireland Daniel is the son of Archibald and Mary Benedict. They are buried in Whitford Cemetery in South Saratoga Springs. The Bemus family is Bemus Heights where the Rev. War took place. That family is somewhat well researched. Bob Crawford has this genealogy on the Internet and includes a lot of families of Saratoga County and Westchester around Poundridge. Just a few names that come to mind - Waterbury, Waring, Hoyt, Davis, Benedict, Lockwood, Dunning, Albright, Fancher, Weed, Rowland, Husted, Mead, and so many more. Does this look like the who's who of Saratoga's early families; the early settlers of Poundridge and Bedford, Westchester Co., NY; and the people you all know from Stamford and other areas of Southwestern CT? Yup! About 7 years ago, Bob walked into Greenridge Cemetery in Saratoga Springs to ask if any Crawfords were buried there? He just wanted to see if there was any record of his Crawfords who left Saratoga and went to MI as pioneers. So 7 years later he has a huge growing file and makes connections with descendants all over the earth. He even has the two Loyalists Crawfords, brothers of those who came to Saratoga. John and James Crawford went to Canada and Bob now has all of those and in touch with their descendants. You will find this at: http://familytreemaker.com/users/c/r/a/Robert-C-Crawford/index.html His email in Michigan <[email protected]> He loves to find "kin" and usually connects with new ones about every week and adds another branch to this work. He has been to Poundridge and arranged with the historian there to obtain all kinds of records and has put them into this genealogy. By the way, if you ever find you have families from Poundridge, you MUST make the trip there. The houses they built there when they moved to the suburbs of Stamford in 1747 and created Poundridge are pretty much still there and lived in. Most are worth over $1,000,000 and it is the bedroom community for New York City. The Poundridge Historical Society happened to have a wonderful display of pictures of all of them and their history when we were there. When you wind your way up and down around the roads, and you cannot see fields or much cleared, you can only think they must have thought the flat openess of Saratoga was like going to Heaven. The Crawfords started around 1787 and many others did after the Rev. War. They must have liked what they saw and many were given land grants too. God Bless Ruth Ann [email protected] Dear people: It has been sometime since I last sent a message to this list. My interest in Saratoga County grew significantly in 1998 when I learned, to the wonderful thanks of Lynn Calvin, that my ancestors did in fact live in Saratoga Springs from about 1800 to 1870. On my mother's side, her paternal line of Chestney has one of its early ancestors as a chair maker in Saratoga Springs. His names, James W. CHESTNEY, b. 1797 d. 1843. He married Sarah DAVIS, daughter of Darius S. DAVIS and Mary CRAWFORD, being the daughter of Sarah (Sallie) BEMUS and Daniel CRAWFORD. I have learned much. However, the exploration continues. First, I seek to obtain any furniture that may have been made by James W. CHESTNEY or his son William CHESTNEY. Moreover, if anyone finds any facts or information, I would be most appreciative. Prior to Saratoga Springs, the CHESTNEY family resided in Albany, New York. I seek an entry in the Fourth of July Orations for Albany, NY but the one I seek is missing by a James CHESTNEY. Any additional information would always be welcome. Thank you. ============================== Free Web space. ANY amount. ANY subject.
