Would like to know more about the family of CHARLES FRANKLIN 'Frank' LIGHTHART, b. Aug 1847, NY, d. 1910, NY, buried Fishers Cemetery, Rotterdam, NY. The Census stated his farm was mortgaged and that his father, name unknown, was born in NY while his mother, name unknown, was born in CAN. Frank married ELLEN E. HOWENSTEIN, b. abt. Aug 1849, NY, d. 1916, also buried in Fishers Cemetery, Rotterdam, NY. The same Census states her father was born in Switzerland, while her mother was born in NY. Neither name is known. Of note: The writing on the Census shows Ellen's name as 'ELLISE,' however, her grave stone says 'Ellen E.' This couple had two daughters, LILLIAN LIGHTHART, b. abt. Oct 1871, NY. She married, when is unknown, a man named WAMPLE, no first name known. The Census shows this information and states Lillian is a widow as of 1900, age 28, and a house maid. Their second daughter, SARAH LIGHTHART, b. Jul 1874, NY, d. 1941/42, Schenectady, NY, buried in Fishers Cemetery, Rotterdam, NY but not in the family plot. In 1900 she was single, at home, and a dressmaker. She was my grandmother. She married sometime before 1913, probably in Schenectady, NY, to WILLIAM BENJAMIN ARMSTRONG, b. 27 Nov 1867, d. 8 Jul 1947. They had one child, LEWIS LIGHTHART ARMSTRONG, b. 11 Aug 1913. A later census shows this couple have parted company and are living in separate residences with their son aged 6, living alone with his mother in Rotterdam, NY. It is not known if this couple ever divorced, but neither remarried. William Armstrong was, however, married and widowed prior to this second marriage. There were children born of this marriage. In fact, interestingly, his daughter, ELSIE ARMSTRONG, also married a HOWENSTEIN. I find this more than coincidental. Mr. Armstrong was living in that household on the later census. Would appreciate any information on WAMPLE that anyone can provide. I'm assuming Lillian's husband was roughly her age, plus a few years so would have been b. abt. 1858. Thank you.
