    3. I have a microfilm from NY State Library in Albany, only have it until Jan 18th. (been on travel most of the time it was here!) This film contains the 1859 and 1860 Tax Assessment lists for the Town of Moreau (they appear to be identical in valuation and names of farmers). They list each property owner, the value of their land, its acreage and tax. It was called a military tax. If you wish lookups, I can do them until the 18th, then Univ of Arizona library has to return it to Albany. For example (my farm was owned by John Thompson from 1856 to 1884: "John Thompson, 100 acres, $1,600, tax $9.21 George Lewis, 83 acres, $1,150, tax $6.62" I kmow John Thompson had a brick house, and George Lewis a wood house! Also at the end of the individual listings, it discusses leaseholds, one leassor was Francis Vischer... "A list of the leasehold property in the Town of Moreau: To Francis Vischer Tax - ------------------------------ Austin Reynolds $200 1.15 Nicholas Jacobie $200 1.15 Peter Wig 100 .57 Charles Scoville 50 .29 Robert Thompson 100 .57 John Thompson 100 .57" QUESTION: Francis Vischer was apparently the leassor who inherrited this from a forebearer, Nanning Vischer, who in turn inherrited or purchased it from Nanning Hermance, the original Kayadrosseras Patentee of 1708, who drew that lot in 1771. DOES ANYONE KNOW how the Kayadrosseras leases ended? did one purchase the land? did the State terminate them? did they just fade away? What happened? My family was told that one neighbor, Belus Ingalsbee simply told the Vischers, one time when they came to collect, to go back to Vischer's ferry, that he was not paying any more! Was this related to the "rent wars" of an earlier day?? (The Dutch brought over farmers and charged them rent as bushels of crop. They did not maintain the land, so the yield decresed and they finally could not pay the rent, so they rebelled.) j John F.
