Hello, I do not live close to Saratoga Springs, NY at all. I've met Ruth Ann at a cemetery several years ago. The cold and the wind of that day didn't deter her from trying to help me find my relative. She is great. Is there anyway to find out what was discussed at the meeting? Does anyone tape the meetings? Hoping! Kathy In MA O'Connor/Bryan/McQuaig/Lester/Dowd
Hi folks, Just a reminder that our first Heritage Hunters meeting of the new year is on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 pm at the Saratoga Springs Library. The topic is: "What Genealogical Researchers Are Missing" presented by Ruth Ann Messick. Ruth Ann says, "Genealogical researchers tend to skim the most known records for their ancestors and fail to get all of the other information possible." Please join us to get your research off on the right foot this year. Pat Peck
Many Thanks to David and Marilyn -- I plod on!! :)))) Hope everyone's safe from the nasty winter weather -- Terri in WA
Terri - have you looked at www.familysearch.org? They have microfilmed the records, including indices, for that time period, plus there are abstracts by Durkee from that time period. Whether or not a will was proved is another issue. For FamilySearch, go to the website, click on the "Library" tab on the top, the "Library Catalog", which will appear under it, then "Place". Type in "Saratoga" and "New York", then choose "Probate". There are several choices, so look at any that seem relevant. You can order films from a local LDS Family History Center, or they also have forms for Photoduplication of Films. On that form, you could request them to copy the index for all the letter you are interested in (spelling is sometimes chancy, so that covers it usually), and see if there is any probate record for your person or people. I just found that the form is also available online. On the main page, click on "Search" at the top, then "Research Helps" underneath it, then "Sorted by Document Type" on the left, then "Form" just to the right of that list. About halfway down, there is a "Request for Photocopies - Census, Books, etc." You would fill in the section for "Microfilm" copies. You can get all the necessary information from the catalog, which I gave directions to above. Then just send it in with a check, and they will send the copies to your home. Since it would be in English, it shouldn't take long. Sometimes foreign languages take longer, because they like to have someone that reads the language do the copying so they know it's right. Anyway....hope that helps. Marilyn Meyers Terri wrote: > And still more Thanks to you folks for clarification on just where > Wilton is.
