Ruth, thank you for taking the time to post Luther's letters. It was wonderful to see Luther mature and grow in the process of his letters. Ruth, I hope you will very soon choose to globally publish Luther's letters. The testimony of the 140 year survival of these letters is so the world may embrace them. Many thanks, Diana Chapman Owen
Hi Ruth; I truly have enjoyed reading every one of the letters. Yes, it's sad he had to die he was a good man. So many good men die young in wars. Dee On 3/5/07 10:09 AM, "Ruth Barton" <mrgjb@sover.net> wrote: > And so ends the sad saga of Luther M. WHEELER, Saratoga Springs, NY. Ruth
Is there a site where I can read the first 57 letters? My son is a Civil War buff and I am forwarding them on to him but if there is a site where he can go, it would be easier... Leslie, Do you have access to the census reports for Saratoga/Albany counties? If not, I was checking through our library and found a Philip, and a Philip P Schuyler in 1790, and Also Peter in 1800, and Peter S in 1810. their locations are listed as Watervliet. Don't know if this is of any help to you at all. Mary

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Still asking for help. Anyone new here know anything about the Native American parents of Lucinda. She was full blood Mohawk b. 1786. Apparently raised by a John Davis family in Stillwater area of Saratoga Co, NY. Married about 1801 and first child born 1802. First three kids Christened in Christ Episcopal Church of Ballston in 1806. Her husband Charles' family were baptised in same church. Was John Davis or one of his relatives her father/foster father? I'm trying, but getting no-where fast. I have resorted to begging and getting in touch with another Mohawk gentleman currently residing at a New York State Correctional Facility very interested in Mohawk history to see if he can help in some way.
Letter #60 Envelope addressed: Mrs F. D. Wheeler Saratoga Politeness of Capt Rugg Camp near Bell Plain Va February 21-1863 Dear Mother Capt Rugg starts home to day, so I thought I would write a few words. I wrote you yesterday but this will probably reach you first. It took me three days to reach here, bringing me a day over time, but, that was all right. I am most will of my cold, and felt glad to get back to what seems my home. I lost a little ambrotype of Alice, out of my coat pocket. I think it dropped out on the floor in the house, if you find it i wish you would send it by Capt Rugg, also send me one of the small photographs if they are done. Send me a letter by Rugg when he returns. Your Son Luther -- Ruth Barton mrgjb@sover.net Dummerston, VT
Letter #59 Envelope addressed: Mrs. F. D. Wheeler Saratoga Springs N. Y. Camp near White Oak Church Va February20-63 Dear mother I arrived (home---underlined) last evening, having been three days on the road. I came through from Saratoga to Washington in (two--crossed out) a day and a night, but arrived to late for the Aguia Creek boat so staid in Washington over night. I attended the evening session of Congress with Col McKean, he took me on the floor of the house so I had a good chance to hear the debates on the bill to indemnify the President for arresting (------------) persons. May of Baltimore made a secesh speech, and was firmly answered by two other Maryland Union Representatives. I was much interested. The mud here is very deep & it was a hard march for me to come up from the landing last Pg2 night. It seems like getting home again to get in my old tent. There is nothing now to write so I will close as the mail is going out. Write soon Your Son Luther -- Ruth Barton mrgjb@sover.net Dummerston, VT
Letter #58 Envelope addressed: Mrs F. D. Wheeler Saratoga Springs New York Camp near Bell Plain Va January 16th 63 Dear Mother Yours and Abbies of the 12th was rec'd to day.- The money came all right; I have not rec'd your letter telling that my things would not come as soon as expected. I rec'd the other and answered them, and sent Rose's certificate. You need not send any gauntlet gloves, for I can get a pair here, nor any writing paper, but send envelopes, that is if you have not sent the things already, but i think you have not, as White will be there before you send the valise, then you will wait for him to bring it. I am writing this in a big hurry as the mail goes out in a few moments. Judson is probably useing the Co order book, and the tactics certainly belonged to the Co. as they were furnished by Gov. Judson had a Pg2 key which fited my trunk. You need not buy the books for I can get them of Gov. for nothing. I do not eat hard tack and pork now but live very well. Mrs Pierce had not better send a box to Col McKean, he can not send it here, she had better send it directed to her husband, Co. C. 77th N. Y. V. 3 Brig 2d Div, 6th Corps Army of the Potomac, then it will be brought right to the Regt by the Provost martial, but she had not better send it at all, for we are going to move. We have just rec'd marching orders, and may go tomorrow, and perhaps not in a week, but shall move soon, then he would never receive the box. Worden has not come yet, I wrote to him yesterday. The pontoon train moved yesterday up the river, I think we are to cross above somewhere, we shall suffer a great deal in the field at this time of year. It rained all last night, and rains quite often now, making it very muddy. I hope if we move again against Pg3 the enemy that we shall either destroy their army or that ours will be destroyed, I want this thing to end in some way. I want something decisive. I am afraid we shall not succeed any better than we did the last time, for we have not been reinforced since the battle. I must close this From your son Luther -- Ruth Barton mrgjb@sover.net Dummerston, VT
I have gotten files over 200 pages. I can't say that all those pages were useful, much more info then I needed about his medical condition, but it was interesting because I did see how hard it was to convince them that he needed some more money. Dear List, Circa 1750, the Saratoga Patent in Albany County, New York (now Saratoga and Washington Counties) was partitioned a second time. A plat of the Second Grand Division of the Saratoga Patent shows the patentees and their holdings to be as follows: R. L. - Great Lotts No. 1, 9, 20, 28, 34, 42 & 43. [Robert Livingston, the Nephew] J.S. - Great Lotts No. 2, 3, 10, 11, 16, 17, 27, 33, 41 & 44 [Johannes Schuyler (1668-1747), grandfather of General Philip Schuyler (1733-1804)] J.J.B. - Great Lotts No. 4, 12, 18, 25, 31 (Jan Jans Bleecker) D. W. - Great Lotts No. 5, 13, 21, 22, 35, 39, & 46 [Dirk Wessles Ten Broeck (1686-1750/51), the father of Abraham Ten Broeck (1734-1810) C. V. D. - Great Lotts No. 6, 14, 15, 24, 30, 38, & 47 [Cornelius Van Dyck] J. S. & R. L. - Great Lotts No. 7, 8, [Johannes Schuyler and Robert Livingston] P.S & R. L - Great Lotts No. 19, 23, 29, 37, 48 (P_______ Schuyler and Robert Livingston) P.S. - Great Lotts No. 26, 32, 40, & 45 (P__________ Schuyler) J.B. - Great Lotts No. 36 & 49 (Probably Jan Jans Bleecker) Does anyone know enough about the Schuylers to tell me who the P. Schuyler listed on the platt might have been? General Philip Schuyler (1733-1804) would not yet have attained is majority in 1750. So I am inclined to suspect that he is not the P. Schuyler named on the plat. Additionally, when General Schuyler died in 1804, he died seized of all but two of the Great Lotts which his grandfather, Johannes Schuyler, possessed. There are several men named Peter and a couple of other men named Philip on the Schuyler family tree who might be the P. Schuyler on the plat. However, I do not have enough data to make that determination. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help. Leslie Potter Glen Mills, PA

Please consider this: I posted on their site as they requested. I suggested base fee for the first 50 pages if you can get that many and 10 or 15 cents a page above that as fair. I fear few people get 200+ pages at least I never have. The base Fee $50 then the other pages should be gravy for them. That would be dollar a page first 50 pages and 10 or 15 cents after that. I think if we can unite somewhat we may be able to win and be fair the new proposed fee is so high the feedback is people will no longer use. I surely could not afford that. Henderson (buried in MI) and resided in MI for a bit and then moved back to NY (buried in Mt. Pleasant or New Salem cemetery). M. Harry married Sarah Tabor and they lived in MI for a bit with William and his wife Lizzie, then moved back to Milton. both are buried in Middle Grove Cemetery along with some of their children. Any help in finding more info on William and Eliza would be helpful. I cannot locate where they are buried although son, William Wallace's death certificate states his father was born in Saratoga County. Thanks William and Eliza are by 2nd g-grandparents. I have a great deal of information on their descendants and would be willing to share. Hi Ruth; Thanks for the reply. I can understand. In July and August in Texas when the temperatures are unbearable in the 90s and the humidity is in the 80s I just sit with the AC on.
