Hello. Your Email to the NYSARATO rootsweb included the following statement: --- Jim Elbrecht <Elbrecht@email.com> wrote: > > I just transcribed the regimental roster from CT Men > in the Revolution > to try to find any connections to William-- Is this transcription in a form that you could Email it to us who are trying to prove descent from CT ancestors in the rev war? Or in what form is it? I would like to know about Nathaniel Cowles from Southington, and Daniel Boardman/Bordman, possibly from Wethersfield. Thank you. "... (Map enclosed) -snip- Interesting coincidence. I just got an email from a fellow in Saratoga county asking about my wife's William JOLLY Revolutionary war veteran. William was from Fairfield CT- but his wife & daughter ended up in Providence, Saratoga county after the war. [connected to the CHASE & MOSHER families there- I think they came up from Duchess county with them] William Jolly was in the 7th CT. Regiment, Col. Heman Swift, in 1777. [he died at Valley forge in Dec.] I just transcribed the regimental roster from CT Men in the Revolution to try to find any connections to William-- That didn't work out but I have to ask if this Abiram Galusha was also in a CT Regiment. But in the 7th there were Thomas and Jacob Galusha who enlisted for 3ys in Capt. Hill's Company on April 23 & 24 1777. Thomas deserted Oct 25, 1778 & Jacob was discharged Feb 14, 1781. Capt Ebenezer Hill was a replacement for Capt. Elizur Warner who resigned in Sept 1777. Galusha is an uncommon enough name to make me ask if these fellows found their way to Saratoga County, too. Jim
Dear List, In his book, John Burgoyne of Saratoga, James Lunt wrote the following at page 177: "Many years later Burgoyne received a letter from Jane McCrea's brother, who had served under him in the campaign of 1777. Burgoyne had succeeded in obtaining a company for McCrea, and was obviously pleased to do him this service. 'I had been accused by the malicious of having encouraged the Indians to acts of barbarity,' he wrote in the margin of McCrae's letter. "It was a great pleasure to me to be thought of so differently by that lady's brother, as five years afterwards, when he hd other and more able supporters, to be singled out as the person whom he wished to act as his patron. From a man of Captain McCrae's character, this selection was not only a pleasing evidence of my innocence, it was one on his mind of my abhorrence of that act." The citation for this quote is de Fonblanque, "Political and Military Episodes, page 259." My question is what was the given name of the brother(s) or half-brother(s) of Jane McCrea, who wrote to General John Burgoyne? Does anyone know, per chance? According to the genealogical data that I have been given from "The history of the Clan Macrae" by the Rev Alexander Macrae, Dingwall, Scotland, 1899, the children of the Rev James McCrea (1711-1769), of Lamington, New Jersey, by his first wife Mary Graham were: 1. Col John McCrea 2. Mary - m. Rev Mr Hanna 3 William - m. a sister of Gen Gordon. 4. Jane d. young. 5. James b 1745. 6. Samuel - m. Miss Sloane 7. Gilbert - m. Miss Meshet 8. Jane - murdered near Ft. Edward. 9. Stephen - Surgeon-General by his 2nd wife Catherine Rosebrooke 10. Robert 11. Philip 12. Creighton 13. Catherine. Any genealogical data on the McCrea clan would be helpful. Thanks, Leslie

Hi Sonja, I have Spencers and Browns in my file. I do not have the names of all of the persons in the families. I will give you what I have and see how close we are. My Samuel Brown was born in Suffield, Hartford County, CT on 6 Nov 1751. He married in New York State to Hulda Alida Loomis about 1772. Samuel died 27 Oct 1839 in Broadalbin, Fulton County, NY. I have a Joseph Spencer who was born on 11 May 1739 in Farmington, Hartford County, CT. He married Mary Jerome on 12 Oct 1758 in Farmington. The only child I have for them is Miles Spencer who was born about 1768. Miles married Lucinda Leach who was born 10 Dec 1771 in Harwinton, Litchfield County, CT. They were married about 1792 in New York State. Do any have any of these persons? Richard
