It shows Alexander emigrated in 1851 and Janet in 1846. The 1901 Canadian Census showed the McMurray family emigrated in 1853, but I found them on an 1852 passenger list, so I don't rely on what census record say 100%. Unfortunately, Alexander was not on the 1852 passenger list, and I can't find him on Ancestry or The Ships List or the Transcribers Guild. So maybe he did come in 1851??? Anyway, I assumed that since the firstborn was from Canada, they were probably married there too. I'll forward this on to the Saratoga County NY rootsweb list...maybe they were married in NY. There are 35 men named Elisha Freeman in the index Robert R. Freeman's book, "The Freeman Families of New England in the 17th and 18th Centuries", which was published in 2005. The Elisha Freeman (1794-1865), who settled in Orchard Park, Erie County, NY, is seventh child of Stephen Freeman (1759-1837) and Anna Baker Freeman (1759-1829). He was born in Great Lott 39 of the Second Grand Division of the Saratoga Patent (present day Easton Washington County, NY). His immigrant Freeman ancestor was John Freeman (1600-1648) of Sudbury, Massachusetts. The Captain Elisha Freeman (1731-1828), about whom Steve was inquiring, was descended from Samuel Freeman (1600-1646) of Watertown, Massachusetts and settled the Town of Half Moon, Saratoga County, NY. ----- Original Message ----- From: <BeachLdy53@aol.com> To: <nysarato@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 17, 2007 7:47 PM Subject: Re: [NYSARATO] Cemetery Lookup > Taken from _The Freeman Family Genealogy_ (http://novan.com/freeman.htm) > : > > > There is a sign on Freeman Road in Orchard Park, NY commemorating Elisha > Freeman who came to the East Hamburg area (now Orchard Park) from Easton, > NY when > he was only 17 years old, way back in 1816, when this area was still a > forest wilderness. Taken from _The Freeman Family Genealogy_ (http://novan.com/freeman.htm) : There is a sign on Freeman Road in Orchard Park, NY commemorating Elisha Freeman who came to the East Hamburg area (now Orchard Park) from Easton, NY when he was only 17 years old, way back in 1816, when this area was still a forest wilderness. His father Stephan Freeman moved in around 1822 with his wife. Stephan had fought as a private in the 13th Regiment of the Albany Co. Militia against General Burgoyne's army in the battle of Saratoga. He saw General Fraser fall from his horse, mortally wounded in the battle. His son, Elisha married Abigail Smith in 1821 and became a successful farmer in Orchard Park. His farm remained in the Freeman family until about 1920. The original home (although modified over the years) still remains a beautiful sight to behold next to Freeman's Pond. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Bob's book has a great deal of information on Capt. Elisha Freeman (1731-1828), but nothing about the death or burial of his wife, Mercy Vincent. I assume that Mercy was still alive on 28 November 1791 because she inherited one sheet and some wearing apparel from her mother. Captain Elisha Freeman wrote an autobiography, which was entitled "Sketches of his life, containing an accout of his shipwreck and remarkable deliverance, as also his religious exercises and the special dealing of God's Providence during his life time of 88 years". His autobiography was published in Ballston Spa in 1819. Capt. Elisha Freeman's autobiography, if you can find a copy of it, might give you a clue or two. The results of my search can be categorized as close, but no cigar. I have an Elizabeth Freeman born on 14 January 1764 in Preston, New London, Connecticut. She married Abraham YARRINGTON, on 10 December 1789 in Preston, New London, Connecticut. She is descended from John Freeman (1600-1648) of Sudbury, Massachusetts There is also and Elizabeth Freeman born 13 April, 1764 in Lancaster, Worcester, Massachusetts. There is no Elizabeth Freeman born in 1763 in Bob's index. Bob does list an Elizabeth Freeman (1762-1816), who lived and died in Hanover, Grafton New Hampshire. When Bob was working on his book he conferred with the author of a genealogy about the Freeman families of New Jersey. In my research I have documented some families from New Jersey settling in the Saratoga Patent. So you may want to consult the New Jersey Freeman genealogy book. If you contact me off list, I'll write to my cousin Bob on your behalf. According to "Calkins Family in America" by Ken Calkins Abraham Calkins was born abt. 1761 and died 4 May 1833 in Mechanicsville, Saratoga, NY. He married Elizabeth Freeman. They had 12 Children which are listed in the book. Let me know if you want the details but I suggest getting access to the book as it follows three of the children further. Hi Tee, A number of my ancestors lived in Saratoga County. Some of the others lived in the area of Fulton County that was flooded when the Sacandaga Lake was built in the 1930s. I have not seen anything on the Kayaderossera Patent of 1708 in which much of the land you are interested in is located. Do you intend to have persons join your club? I would be interested in joining. Richard
Leslie, I am sure Samuel Right Brown who lived in Milton and Stillwater, either had a relative who went with this group, possibly a brother or sister, or dear friends. He was born in 1775 so he would have been old enough to have formed deep relationships with them.. I am in the process of finding out who his siblings were. I have hired a professional genealogist out of Salt Lake to solve some of my brick walls, and Samuel's siblings are a part of that wall. After 30 years of unsuccessful searching, I finally came to the conclusion I really needed help. Costly but hopefully effective. Samuel was also an owner/editor of the Saratoga newspaper in the early 1800s before he sold out and went to Albany and finally Auburn before his death in 1817 near Cherry Valley. He was on his way home from NYC where he was working on a business deal, probably with his new book that was about to be published. when he suddenly took ill and died in the home of strangers, the Fitch brother near Cherry Valley.
