(not on Hudson in other >words, but on the Mohawk, i.e. Erie Canal) Dear Mr. See: Thanks for your help in locating Vischer's Ferry. I can locate where Stony Creek empties into the Mohawk on Sylvester's map. This would be near the town of Half Moon. >As long as we're getting oriented (and this list isn't old, I believe, >so we're all pretty new) can someone say where Beamis Heights was (as in >the NY 77th Reg't, Beamis Heights battalion in the Civil War)? Sylvester's map shows "Bemis Heights Post Office" (circa 1840) to be located about 2.5 miles north of Stillwater Falls, on the Hudson River. Alternatively, it is 5.5 miles north of Mechanicsville. About a mile and a half W-NW of Bemis Heights P.O., are imprinted the words "Bemis Heights." About one mile north of the words Bemis Heights are imprinted the words "Battleground." Though I know not what battle was fought there. Since Sylvester's book was published in 1860, it probably refers to a Revolutionary War battle. By the way I saw the surname BOYCE on the tagline... Jerome Boyce is listed in the 1850 Census of the Town of Moreau, and in 1856, his name is listed in a deed of sale of what would become our farm from Minerva Lewis to John Thompson. He lived just to the south of our home on the Fort Edward to South Glens Falls Road) Thank again for your help j John F. 1. 1779 tax lists

    3. As long I'm asking questions, I may as well ask another. In my previous posting, I asked where Beamis Heights was (towards the bottom, you were probably skimming and didn't catch it). I have a copy of a couple pages of the 1779 Saratoga tax lists with an old relative on it, and I wonder whether it's now possible to figure out where the people lived from their position on the tax list. In March 1779, there were right next to each other: Simeon Snyder Abraham See William Boice They were all family, sort of. William Boyce was Abraham See's brother's father-in-law's son-in-law, if you get my drift. After the war, Abraham's land was confiscated, and there's no sign of him after that. Maybe by coincidence, Abraham's Patriot relatives also ended up in the area (Emerson's corners specifically) and show up in land records ca. 1805. Later another set of relatives moved to Wilton from Gallatin (via Hadley) ca. 1818. In Oct 1779 the tax list has Abraham See sandwiched between Nehemiah Potts and John Vroman. Totally different order. David See Sees of New York http://pages.preferred.com/~dsee/genie.html

But I see the road you mention. I've made a few visits to the area, as my family came from Wilton, you see. On one trip, we got caught in a traffic jam in Glens Falls, so have fond memories. > Early literature mentions the names of two Hudson River ferries, "Rogers > Ferry," and "Vischers Ferry." I'm studying a family of Dutchers now that lived in Halfmoon "on the highway to Vischers Ferry" which now would probably be either Riverview Road or Beach Road. 3. Greetings, I am new to this list, and researching some of the issues relating to where I grew up. I was born on a farm on the S. Glens Falls- Ft. Edward Road, known after 1863, as "The John Thompson Farm." Early literature mentions the names of two Hudson River ferries, "Rogers Ferry," and "Vischers Ferry." Does any kind soul know exactly where these two crossings were located? I thought Rogers Ferry was near the Fort Edward bridge over the Hudson, but then found the bride has been there since ~1821. One early deed describes a certain portion of land as bordering the road to Rogers Ferry, and notes that this land is in Lot 1 of the 20th Allotment of the Kayadroseras Patent. If so, that would place Rogers Ferry about 4-to-5 miles south of the Fort Edward Bridge. Vischers Ferry is probably closer to Waterford, but I cannot find it marked on any of the older maps. thanks, John O'Hanlon Tucson, Arizona

    1. Glens Falls, NY
    2. Greetings! Is there a town historian in Glens Falls, NY? How would I get in touch with them? My gggg grandfather, Job PRINCE, bought a farm near Glens Falls, NY in 1819. He died January 31, 1828. I would like to know what happened to the property then. Was it transferred to his wife, Rhoda KIBBE PRINCE, one of his children or sold? What I am really trying to do is locate my gggg grandmothers grave and information on the other children. I'd like to locate a will or some form of probate as well, but I don't have much hopes of that happening. Thanks for your time! Annette

    1. ELIJAH HOOPER
    2. Dale Updike
    3. Hello everyone! I'm the new kid on the list. Looking for any info on ELIJAH HOOPER, Rev. War soldier; born probably about 1750-60 in Saratoga Co somewhere. Moved to Tompkins Co, NY in early 1800's. Had a daughter LORINDA H. HOOPER, born Dec 1807 supposedly in Saratoga. Elijah MAY have been a Loyalist; one researcher told me that he was a Colonel, but there seems to be np trace of him in the DAR Index. I don't know where he was when he died, but I assume it was Tompkins Co, NY. The obituary of LORINDA refers to Elijah as her father, and uses the expression "of Revolutionary fame" of him. Anybody out there run across Elijah or Lorinda?...or have any ideas? This is one of my TWO serious brick walls; any help or suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated. Regards to all, Dale Updike, Saskatchewan, Canada

    1. BROWER, PETTIT, MABB
    2. Hello: I just joined this list about a week or so ago and was wondering if there is anyone else who is on this list. I am searching madly for BROWER, PETTIT, MABB and related lines. They all lived in the Saratoga County area circa 1800 to about 1870 or later. Jeremiah BROWER married Keziah MABB and had ten children in Ballston Spa and surrounding areas. His oldest son, Henry Harrison BROWER, married Caroline "Carrie" PETTIT. They all migrated to Iowa around 1870. We have not been able to find anything about them on any census in New York. Does anyone have a clue to my lost family???? -.,,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,,_,.-:*'``'*:-.,,_,.- Connie Goins Ardrey http://www.angelfire.com/ak2/geenniiee SOUTHWICK - GOINS - BROWER - WHIPPLE - EDDY - HUTCHINS - PIPKIN PETTIT - JEFFERS - ARDREY - BOWMAN - PITTMAN - GANT - GILLIAM COGDELL - HANKINS - SABIN - QUEEN

    2. Sharilyn Whitaker
    3. Greetings from a new list member, I have three separate lines that lead to Saratoga County, two of these cannot be tracked beyond there. One vanished in Stillwater, and another in Ballston Spa. I'll begin with the one for which I have some hope! I research the WOLLEWEVER/WOOLWEAVER family which has dozens of spelling variants, among them VOLWISER, VOLLWYZER, WOOLWISER and so forth. Several turn up on the 1790 and 1800 census from HALF MOON TOWNSHIP, Saratoga County. Can anyone tell me when Half Moon was settled, where exactly it is, or was, and what church covers records of it's inhabitants from the late 17 and early 1800s? Would surely appreciate anything at all. Regards, Sharilyn

    2. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had access to tax rolls that refer to the current Saratoga county before 1790. I'm trying to locate information on Job PRINCE, who enlisted in the 16th militia in 1775. I don't have a definite birth or marriage date. He married Rhoda KIBBE of Somers, CT. They had a total of 10 children, all born in the 1790's and early 1800's. They spent most of their lives in White Creek, NY and are buried in Reynolds Corners cementary in Moreau, NY. Thanks for the help! Annette
