    1. A SARATOGA List!! How Wonderful!
    2. Dave Morris and Karen Hammond Clark
    3. Hi, I'm new to this list, just learned of it recently. Currently, I am the contact person for Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County - the coordinators of the Saratoga NYGENWEB site - (the one recommended recently on this list) - www.rootsweb.com/~nysarato. HH is a genealogical and historical society in Saratoga County. As contact person I have recieved numerous msgs about starting a list for Saratoga, but alas, our resources were too few to take on this task at that time. I have previously told people that if a list were to come about I would be willing to publicize if via our web page. Could the owner of this list please contact me to possibly work out this arrangement so that visitors to our site could easily be made aware of the list? thanks very much. kc.

    1. Connell & Thorn in Halfmoon / Waterford / Clifton Park
    2. Dear folks on the NY Saratoga List: I've put together a brief timeline of the Connell family I am interested in from the Halfmoon / Waterford / Clifton Park area of Saratoga. I am a Dec. of Thorn Connell b. 1805 in Halfmoon. I think his father is Isaac C. Connell and his grandfather is John C. Connell. This Connell family was in the Halfmoon area as early as 1775. I need to get proof that Isaac is Thorn's father. Think MAYBE Thorn's mother could have had the maiden surname of Thorn. (?) Thorn is unusual for a 1st name. Maybe somehow the Thorn / Thorne surname figures in. I have not been able to locate any birth records, baptism for Thorn Connell. Unable to figure where Isaac Connell was after 1810 Census. Per Thorn Connell's obit he lived in Halfmoon until manhood. In the mid 1830's Thorn goes to MI. A will on Isaac would help me figure out if Isaac was Thorn's dad or not. If I only knew where Isaac was when he died! I don't see him on the 1820 Census. Another Connell Researcher thinks that perhaps Thorn Connell may have worked on the Canal in some fashion as it was being built around that time and place. Would there be any records that could verify that, one way or the other? Maybe someone could find that out from the expert at the meeting and let me know? I live near San Francisco and would appreciate any help! Thank you! Margaret Shinoki John C Connel / Connell 1760 Christopher Connell (son?) was born 7-13-1760 in Fishkill, Dutchess Co, New York. Per his Rev. War Pension Papers. 1772 John Connell & Lucretia Reids christening of “Isaak Connel” at Reformed Dutch Church, New Hackensack, Dutchess Co., New York. 1774-5 Aaron Connell born Schenectady, Albany Co., New York to John Connell and Lucretia Root or Rught. Per Aaron’s tombstone he was born July 1774 --- Per book on Schenectady families he was born July 1775. 1776 Christopher Connell resided in Halfmoon and entered American Rev. War serving under Colonel Jacobus Van Schoonhoven and Captain John Connell. (Perhaps his dad?) Christopher would have been 16 and I would think still living in parents household. His parents then would have moved from Schenectady to Halfmoon 1775 ish. (Christopher later moved and died in PA at the age of 88.) 1779 Halfmoon Tax List John Connell & John E. Connal (?) 1786 Halfmoon Tax List John C. Connell and John Connell 1788 Halfmoon Tax List John C. Connell & John Connor (?) 1788 John C. Connell kept a tavern. 1. Hayes and Fort in Saratoga County
    2. Hello Richard Please share information you have on the Hayes and Fort families of Saratoga County. Many times, people will read what you have and be able to realize they have a connection. The name Hayes will also be spelled Hay and Hays in records here. There are a few possiblities of the Fort family. Of those I have previously researched, I could not make a connection of two families but I did not pursue it past the search I happened to be doing so there might be connections if one goes further back. The Town of Moreau was taken out of the Town of Northumberland. There was an early Fort family who actually lived in the Town of Moreau before it became that town. There is a Fort road in Moreau. Also over in Ft. Edward, is the Old Fort House Museum. That was a Fort family and not named such (as I had previously thought) for Fort Edward. The Fort house is not far from the actual fort site though so I just assumed that was why it was named such. 1. Surnames Bryant/Brower
    2. Looking for any descendant of Samuel D. Bryant and Jane Brower both of Saratoga County to share info. They would have been my gg grandparents. Samuel was born 1830 in Broadalbin married Jane Brower born Nov. 1831. Samuel seems to have dropped out of site in later years. Jane died in 1916 and is buried in the Powell Wiswall Cemetery. Jane's parents were Samuel Brower and her mother was Sara Burr. Am hoping to make a tie in with a Jeremiah Brower line. Any piece of information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    1. Welcome Saratoga-L
    2. Glad to see there is now a Saratoga List. When did this get started and who is the list owner? I will notify people that this list is up and we can get Saratoga information on it. Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County, a genealogy-history interest group maintains the Saratoga GenWebPage at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~nysarato/> We have been placing pertinent information for searching the area for Saratoga and surrounding counties. As volunteers complete projects, we are getting up the information on cemeteries, the participants at the Saratoga Battlefield and lots of other features including surnames and queries. On Saturday, 20 Nov at the Saratoga Springs Public Library at 1pm, the speaker for the monthly meeting of Heritage Hunters will be Craig Williams from the NYS Archives who will speak on the Erie Canal and how it affected the lives of your ancestors. He will give a slide presentation and answer your questions. Hope to see you there. Saratoga is one of the most historic and interesting counties in NYS so we should be able to keep the information going on this list. 1. Francis K. Winney Cemetery
    2. Hello One of the mysteries that we have discovered in Saratoga County is the location of Francis K. Winney Cemetery. Cornelius Durkee copied the cemeteries in Saratoga County in 1876-1878 including the Francis K. Winney Cemetery. According to Durkee, he located the cemetery on the road from Schuylerville to Saratoga Springs(Route 29 today) about one mile west from Grangerville and was between the road and Fish Creek. We have located some stones from Durkee's original list which were relocated in other cemeteries with other family members. One stone from that list lies in a front yard of a home just about where it should be located but is on the opposite side of the road. In the Winney family genealogy, they indicate burial in the Francis K. Winney cemetery past 1900 but I have spoken to some of the older residents in that immediate area and they do not remember any cemetery along in that area in 1917 and 1926 when they lived right at that point. A note by someone stated that before the two bridges of Grangerville, which cross the Fish Creek, the road from Schuylerville to Saratoga (Route 29 today) followed the creek more closely. Which side of Grangerville did Durkee start his measurement from? >From the bridge by Hayes Rd. on the west side of Grangerville, if you travel one mile, you come out somewhere near The Old Saratoga Home and Garden. Any information about this cemetery and the movement of the stones, would be greatly appreciated. 1. WEEKS and ROSS
    2. Hi All, I'm new to the list and thought I'd post a little about the Saratoga connections I'm researching. Gilbert WEEKS (Wix, Wicks), my ggg grandfather b. 30 Aug 1812, Stillwater, Saratoga, NY. Moved to Delaware Co., OH about 1831 where he married Eunice GRIST. Moved to Jones Co., Iowa about 1855 Moved to Greene Co. Iowa about 1884 where he died in 1893. We'd like to confirm who his parents are. For many years we believed they were Jacob WEEKS and Mary ROSS, but some recently found records indicate Gilbert's father may have been Stephen WEEKS who was a brother of Jacob. Jacob WEEKS was b. about 1769 in New York or Vermont. Mary ROSS b. about 1771 probably in New York. The father of both Jacob WEEKS and Stephen WEEKS and thus grandfather of Gilbert WEEKS was Daniel WEEKS b. 1741 in Saratoga Co., NY. Daniel was a Rev. War vet who died in Delaware Co., Ohio in 1817. Any help appreciated! Thanks, Kristi Gebhart [email protected]

    1. Books
    2. John O'Hanlon
    3. The two books I ordered from a library finally arrived! Here is what they contain. 1. FRENCH "Gazetteer of NY," originally pub in 1860, reprinted later is a gazetteer of entire state. Saratoga County entry is short, about 11 pages. not a lot of names, but some are there. gives some of the history of each township. Not nearly as useful as Sylvester's History of Saratoga County. 2. HORNE "Genealogical Guide to Saratoga County, NY" 1980. This little book contains references of WHERE to find things--no raw data between its thin covers. However, it did prove useful to me--It stated that the Reynolds Corners Congregational Church records are found in DAR Cemetery Records, Vol 154, p.202. Next time I go to the library, I will look for them! So, I can do lookups for you and reply individually for the next week or 10 days, till they go back. It would be useful, if you could be as specific as possible in requests from HORNE, as things are broken up by township, and within the township, by church. cheers j John F.
