Hi Listers, I am searching for information regarding Samuel Isaac JOHNSON, who it is thought was born in Vermont in 1770, and either married Polly WILLIAMS there or in Saratoga - possibly Stillwater. She died sometime prior to 1815. He then married Mary Polly THOMPSON in Saratoga and they had four daughters: Mary Jane, Philina, Ann Janet and Loanda. All were born in Saratoga. Mary Polly THOMPSON was born 12 Apr 1785 in Stillwater, Saratoga. Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated. Samuel Isaac JOHNSON is my ggggrandfather. Max

Hello Tammy Go to the Swathmore (PA) College website and check for the records. Some of Saratoga is up there but according to Jane Meader Nye, who is very knowledgeable about these records, they have not included those from western side of Saratoga County. There is a copy of what is on that site for Saratoga at the Saratoga County Historian's office. They have been accumulating a nice file on Quaker records. Hi List. This is first time I have ever posted a message to a list before, so if I am doing this wrong, please someone let me know. I recently discovered that I have Quaker ancestors. I would like to know how do I find the records for the Saratoga Monthly Meeting, Saratoga, NY. This information was received from a copy of the IGI record for this particular ancestor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Tammy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com
The easiest way to find out if the records exist is to go on LDS's www.familysearch.org and go to the Family History Library on-line catalog. I checked it and Saratoga Monthly Meeting records have been filmed and are available at any Family History Center. You can get the film numbers to order on-line (but you can't print out or save the citation as they have the database set as read only,) and then send for the films to be used at the FHC. I'm looking for the parents of Henry B EVANS. According to census records, he was born in Saratoga County in June 1816, then moved to Rensselaerville, Albany Co, where he married and had children. He may have been the son of Daniel V EVANS, who also was born in Saratoga County and moved to Rensselaerville, Albany Co, in 1828. Can anyone help? Jean Foster [email protected]
I am looking for information on Seaman LAWRENCE, b 1799 in Dutchess Cnty, but later lived in Saratoga Cnty. I am looking for his parents and siblings. He married Elinor G. MOREHOUSE, (daughter of Gould Morehouse and Betsey Meeker) in 1829. They had a couple of children in Saratoga, then moved to upstate NY. Elinor had a sister Deborah that married a DUNNING that is buried in Collomer Ceme., Malta. I am looking for the children of this marriage. Any leads on these families would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Dianne
I am trying to find family to a Seaman LAWRENCE, born in Dutchess Cnty, but moved and married in Saratoga Cnty. They had a couple of children born there, before they moved to upstate NY. His wife was Elinor Morehouse, daughter of Gould Morehouse and Betsey Meeker. I have more history on Elinor than Seaman!

Folks, I'm reposting for our new Saratoga mailing list members. I need to find a "daddy" for my Thorn Connell born in Halfmoon 1805! I think it might be one of the male children of John C. Connell who died in Halfmoon 1801. John C. Connell's male children per his estate papers were: John Isaac C. (Promising, as has a child the right age on the 1810 Halfmoon Census) Christopher Alcha Abel (Man or womans name?) Aaron (Thorn not his child) Thorn Connell's obit follows. Any ideas on how to get over my brick wall? - Margaret Shinoki, near San Francisco. In Memoriam. ----- Died, at Alba, Oregon, Jan. 2, 1884, Thorn Connell, aged seventy-eight years and three months. Thorn Connell was born at Half Moon, Saratoga county, New York, A.D. 1805, and lived there till manhood, when he married Harriet Emily Mosher. They emigrated to Union City, Branch county, Michigan, in 1837, where they settled on a farm, and had born to them five daughters and two sons, of whom four daughters and the two sons are now living, viz: Mr John G. and Helam T. Connell, and Mrs. Ann Gibbon, who reside at Alba, Umatilla county, Oregon: Mrs. Mary Morilla Minkler, residing at Algona, Kossuth county, Iowa; Mrs. Juliette Young, at Nashua, Chickasaw county, Iowa; and Mrs. Emily Statirie Connell at Faulkton, Faulk county, Dakota. With his wife and children Mr. Connell moved to Floyd county, Iowa, in 1854, where his wife and one girl died. Keeping the rest of his children with him, he went into Kossuth county, Iowa, in 1865. There his children matured to men and women and made homes for themselves. In 1873 he came with his son, John G., to the Willamette valley, Oregon. In 1878 he came to Eastern Oregon, and at the Meadows joined with the United Brethren Church. In 1881 he came to Alba, where he has lived with his children until his death on January 2, 1884, at the home of John G. Connell, where the filial affection of his children supplied his wants and gave that sympathy which is the highest comfort of old age. ---------- A Card of Thanks. To the many friends of Camas Prairie whose considerate assistance in the care of our father during his last sickness was so kindly rendered, our thanks are gratefully presented. JOHN G. CONNELL. MRS. ANN GIBBON. HELAM T. CONNELL. Alba, Jan. 7, 1884. ----------
Greetings: Seems there are a number of new folk on the list; so I would like to explain where, what and for whom I am searching. My maternal grandfather Robert Foote moved from Wisconsin to the Town of Moreau in 1903, so the family has no early history in Moreau. He purchased his farm from Ervin and Ann SWEET. They, in turn purchased it from Harriet and Thomas MURRAY. Harriet purchased the farm from her father John THOMPSON. John purchased it in two parcels, one of 100 acres from Minerva LEWIS, relict of Sanford LEWIS (son of Moses LEWIS) in 1856, and 11.5 acres in 1863 from the estate of Truman Hamlin, whose daughter Amelia married John THOMPSON. We have all of the deeds back to the 1850's but it would appear that Moses and Sanford died intestate, leaving the land to their heirs, presumably with no paper trail. Moses, it is claimed came to Moreau in 1790, and the Census agrees. Mom claimed our brick house was built in 1792, a believable scenario, considering its construction. 1) Is anyone on the list tracing the THOMPSON, HAMLIN and LEWIS families? (There are many Thompsons; this is not the Judge, but a son of one of six brothers (Hugh) who moved to Northumberland before 1795.) 2) Does anyone know anyone who is interested in old houses? Architecture, trying to determine period of building by the construction??? History of old Moreau houses, etc. ??? regards, john o. John F. Hello Saratoga list members, The NYSARATO-L list is relatively new. Many of the members of Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County, a genealogy-history interest group, are just hearing about this list and getting signed on. Most of our members are also seeking their ancestors and have posted their surnames and queries on the Saratoga GenWebPage which is maintained by volunteers of Heritage Hunters. We have volunteers doing data entry and out copying records and cemeteries so you need to check our web site often to see what is going on, especially your surnames. We always need more volunteers to do the data entry and you could do this from out-of-state. We will supply you with the data and instructions. We could search the archives for the previous messages on NYSARATO-L but would appreciate those who have previously posted to date send a new message and include all that you know about the people you are seeking information for. This helps others to make a connection to you and help supply you with what they have found. A good message includes their names; dates of birth, death and marriage for all; spouses complete name, children's information including their spouse, places of birth, death and marriage for all; place of burial; and allied families and their relationship to your ancestor. Connections are often made thru the allied families so they are most important to include. Heritage Hunters membership provides a great informative newsletter, a Surname Index Exchange with over 8,000 names (not all Saratoga County); and monthly meetings at the Saratoga Springs Public Library on the 3rd Saturday of each month except December. Our monthly speaker's topics provide information about everything that a genealogist would want to know, not only about Saratoga County but where to find things and how to research. Normally our meetings are from Noon to 4pm but only for this Spring we are doing something a little different. From January thru May (2000) our meetings will be from 9am - 4pm and loaded with activities and speakers on many topics of interest. Soon, in another message, we will provide this list with our scheduled meetings for 2000 which will be filled with information you won't want to miss. For more information about Heritage Hunters, you may email our membership chairperson, Carol Waldron <[email protected]> Visit our web site for Saratoga County <http://www.rootsweb.com/~nysarato/> and be sure to get your surnames and queries on there. Remember that people all over the world come there to make their Saratoga ancestor connection. Posted on our site is also all of the clerks and historians of Saratoga County plus all of the information about the repositories in and around Saratoga County that you will find Saratoga information including historians from surrounding counties. Please resend all earlier messages for the benefit of the many new subscribers. Hello RIchard You probably already have this but in Sylvester's History of Saratoga County on page 513 is Elias T. Hayes, son of William and Maria (Alsdorf) Hayes, b Saratoga Co., NY 1828, Farmer, PO Rexford Flats. There are other Hayes in the History of Saratoga but these are the only ones indicated as related to William and Maria. Do you have other information that might help? Please send that to the list, including any other allied families. I believe there is an Alsdorf file at the Saratoga County Historian's office.
