    1. Re: 1814 NY State Census
    2. Where would you find the 1814 census for Saratoga county? I need to look up Bates and Babcock. Jackie Perkins-Horton - Silverdle WA

    1. From Ruth Ann
    2. Hello everyone, Just wanted to let you all know I am okay. Have received many messages of concern because I have not been sending out a lot of messages but I am simply overwhelmed with work. The genealogical research business I started earlier this year has really taken off and I "RUN" all day at NYS Library and Archives. The bad part is that I cannot get home at night to catch up the computer work that needs to be done. I make it home by midnight or so and back on a bus to Albany at 7:30am. Been doing this for a few months. I planned on dropping the servicing of greeting cards and balloons in the stores around Saratoga Springs and have given notice for the stores with balloons sometime ago but my supervisor moved up to regional manager and also became a 1st time daddy a few weeks ago. He has been rushing around training our new supervisor as well as learning his territory from Boston to Buffalo and all parts in between. The new supervisor, although not new to American Greetings, is trying to do all the things he has to do to acquaint himself with all of the local accounts and all of the merchandisers. I told him that I needed to back out of this and he is trying to find someone to take my place but asked if I could hang in just a little longer. So I have continued a little longer. Weekends, I have also been taking care of a man dying of cancer in Clifton Park and he only had two months and that was 4 months ago. I stay overnight and sleep for 2-3 hours and get up and move him on his side and I actually got more sleep there than when I have been home. I took this on because they could not get anyone and his wife has been his 24 hour caregiver and just needed to get some rest. She has been caring for him for two years as he also has Parkinsons but he really has needed more care these past months. Well, I fell asleep in my car in Lowe's parking last night and when I woke up I decided to come home and sleep at 5pm. I had not been home for a few days so I just checked my email and found a bunch of messages which I cannot answer each one personally. I do want to wish everyone a Blessed Christmas. I pray that you all stop and think about where we are going in this world, especially with this craziness called Christmas shopping. Few of the people I encountered out there yesterday were happy and many were outright fighting in the stores with family members. Remember that Jesus is the Reason for the Season. He is the gift of love from God the Creator and this is the farthest from what Christmas is all about. The best Christmas gift you can give to everyone is to let them know how much you love them and mean it. All the petty things that go on in our lives erode not only our family but the world around us. You do make a difference but are you making a difference or has the world around you eroded who you were? If life is like a merry-go-round that is spinning faster, maybe it is time to get off and think about where you are going. I pray that you all take the time to give this some thought. Think about Christmas when you were younger, when it was not so commercial. Take a step back in time to your ancestor's day and you will be closer to the real meaning of Christmas. If you believe that the Babe of the Manger is coming again, you need to be ready. There will be a new Millenium with his coming.....is that soon? 1. Moonshine
    2. Hi All Got this from my son Dave's brother-in-law and thought worth while to pass on. Hope you enjoy watching the "super Moon." Jerry On December 22nd watch for a super bright full moon! This year will be the first full moon to occur on the winter solstice, December 22nd, commonly called the first day of winter. Since a full moon on the winter solstice occurred in conjunction with a lunar perigee (point in the moon's orbit that is closest to Earth). The moon will appear about 14% larger than it does at apogee (the point in it's elliptical orbit that is farthest from the Earth) since the Earth isalso several million miles closer to the sun at this time of the year than in the summer, sunlight striking the moon is about 7% stronger making it brighter. Also, this will be the closest perigee of the Moon of the year since the moon's orbit is constantly deforming. If the weather is clear and there is a snow cover where you live, it isbelieved that even car headlights will be superfluous. On December21, In1866 the Lakota Sioux took advantage of this combination of occurrences and staged a devastating retaliatory ambush on soldiers in the Wyoming territory. In laymen's terms it will be a super bright full moon, much more that the usual AND it hasn't happened this way for 133 years! Our ancestors 133 years ago saw this. Our descendants 100 or so years from now will see this again. Remember this will happen December 22, 1999. Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County, NY has been publishing an index of all the names in the Saratoga Surrogate Court's index of probate records (up to 1900), as a series of items in their newsletter. We are up to the 'Js' and sorry to report that there are no entries for "BURNEY". At least you will not have to bother to check these yourself. Fletch Blanchard, Editor HH Newsletter

    3. I was asked about the availability of the 1845 state census of Saratoga County; the Family History Library does not have it listed in their catalog. That does not mean that it no longer exists, but the FHL in Salt Lake City doesn't have a copy. Check the NY State Archives and the Saratoga County Courthouse or History Society. Tim - since your Richard BURNEY did own property, check the probate records to see if he left a will or if the county courts divided up his property. These records may give clues as to where children, who did not show up on the census in Waterford, may have been, and who daughters may have married. Also check the land records as he may have sold part or all of his property before he died. Check the County Courts for the naturalization records, and get ALL of them because the naturalization certificate in and of itself usually doesn't have much information, it's the declaration of intent, and the application for naturalization that is more apt to give a town name from the parent country. If you've checked the 1850 indexes and been unable to find them, and since they weren't in Waterford in 1855, it MAY mean that they came into NY between 1855 and 1860. That narrows down the search for passenger lists somewhat. Unfortunately that time frame is not indexed for the lists coming into NYC. But I've found that these lists seldom name the town or county of the immigrant's country. My SCHMID/SMITHs arrived in 1857, and the passenger lists just list Switzerland as to where they were from. 3. Hats off to Pat B who send me some census info from the 1865 and 1875 census from Waterford. I am pretty sure it was the family of my great grand mother. Now a question...My great great grand fa who was in the census is listed as having Naturalized. Will I find thsat information from NARA or from the local clerk of the court for Saratoga county? Presuming of course that he naturalized in Sartoga County. The entire family of my MORRISSEY side came through either Waterford or Clifton Park between 1851 and 1856, one at a time.Partrick, Daniel, William and Michael. My great grandfather and mother were married at St Marys RC in Waterford. Wonder what was the attraction?

    1. Help?
    2. Tim Morrissey
    3. I am desperately searching for the family of RICHARD BURNEY. They are in the 1860 census as living in Waterford, Saratoga County. The family includes RICHARD, KATHARINE, JOHANNA, ANNE, BERNARD, ELIZABETH and JOHN KERSEY in that census. I need a look up for them in the 1870 census and beyond including any death record and (God willing) an obit on any of them. I have written St Marys RC (in Waterford) Church for any sign of them but have heard nothing. I have no track of them after the 1860 census and I think Johanna or Anne is my great grand mother. Any help appreciated. Slainte, Tim
