That is almost worse than searching Smith and > Jones. > Okay here goes: Elizabeth Ann See (1839-1910) b. Wilton NY md. Jeremiah Baker (ca. 1842-1915) son of William Baker (1820-after 1880). Seeking a line on these Bakers. also: Adeline M. See (1852-1882) md. the Gansevoort Postmaster George Henry Pratt (1851-1915). His parents were John C. Pratt & Mary. John C. was b.c. 1822 in Massachusetts. Jayne Pratt Lovelace, the compiler of the "Pratt Dictionary" is unable to place this John C. They had one child Martin See (1797-1876) md. Sarah ROODS who was b. prob. in Greene Co. in 1804. The family lived in Wilton and their son Andrew J. See was the innkeeper in Wilton in the mid-late 1800s. Seeking info on Roods, although that particular spelling seems to be quite rare. (Rhodes, Rood, Root are possible variants) Anne E. Wilcox (1850- 1895) married Charles Franklin See and lived in Wilton. She was the daughter of Sivenas/Sylvenus Wilcox. Clarissa Price (1831-1918) was the daughter of John Price and Elizabeth Scriver. The Scriver line probably comes from SCHRYVERS living in NW Dutchess Co. Whether the PRICE name is English or Dutch (i.e. BREIS or BRISSIE) I don't yet know. Clarissa married in turn Alfred M. SEE, Samuel RAMSEY (who I know nothing about), Frank FORDEN and Orrin LOCKWOOD and lived in Wilton and Moreau. I'm looking at Dutchers in Half Moon in coordination with William B. Bogardus who is compiling descendants of Everardus Bogardus. These Dutchers were likely among these descendants but it has been difficult to prove. Dave
I am looking for the parents or sibling names of Samuel Emmons HOLLISTER b. April 25, 1817 in Saratoga Co. He moved to Michigan by 1839 and on to California by 1852 followed by his wife Mary Ann DEMAREST and three children in 1869. Regards, John Hollister
Deborah Van Epps born abt 1775 Saratoga, daughter of Abraham Van Epps born abt 1749 in Saratoga. Deborah married Hildebrant Banta. Does anyone have info on this Van Epps family?
Cecil You certainly have a lot of Saratoga possibilities with all of your surnames. I did a search a few years ago for a Comstock descendant and there is a wonderful book at NYS Library. "A History and Genealogy of the Comstock Family in America" by John Adams Comstock, Del Mar, CA. Privated printed for the author by The Commonwealth Press, Inc., Los Angeles, CA There were quite a few Comstock families in Saratoga and surrounding areas. Have you seen this book? All of your surnames are very much recorded and it might be a good idea to contact the Saratoga County Historian's office. Just talked to Dorothy Mitchell, 389 Sweetman Rd, Ballston Spa, NY 12020. 518-882-6426 She is M4 on the Surname Index Exchange. She has more on Banta and has done research for years on this family and some of the allied families. She gave me permission to give this out on the list even though it is published and sent to our members. Dottie said that the your Arie Banta b 1797 is the brother of her Peter that I sent in an earlier message. She said the earlier Arie came from NJ and I told her about all of the NJ records that we have at NYS Library and she is going to try and get down there so I can help her locate them. She knows that Hanna Banta and Benjamin Seabury were in Galway and has more information. Dottie does not have a computer so she cannot participate with us. She is very knowledgable on several of the allied families and the families around the Charlton area. Dianne I think your Dunnings and Collamers are part of the families of Malta area. There is both a Dunning and Collamer cemetery there. Cornelius Durkee, a local historian, copied most of the cemeteries of Saratoga County in 1875-1877 time period. We have a few cemeteries on the Saratoga GenWebPage and the Hudson View Cemetery has included columns with X which indicate if it was in Durkee, is the stone still to be found in Hudson View and if it is still legible. (Carol Waldron did this cemetery and in the column legible, she used / if half legible - thanks Carol). We would love to get all of the cemeteries on the GenWebPage and could supply copies of Durkee's to anyone who would do this data entry which could be used as a base for future additions as we copy the existing cemetery and any cemetery records we can find. Anyone with a computer anywhere in the world could help us get all of Saratoga recorded, be it cemeteries or other projects we have waiting. For the cemeteries we are basically using Microsoft Access and setting it up as Carol has done for Hudson View but can convert some other data bases into Access. Can we talk? May I say that most of the people who get involved doing projects learn a lot along the way. We really have a lot to share as many of you do too. This is how we help break down those brick walls that we all have - doing it together. Correction on the snow. We got a good 12"+. Just shoveled my car out AFTER the plow buried the passenger side. Hello List, It sure would be helpful if in the Subject window would appear just the surname(s) included in your message. Have discovered that I am jumping around trying to find the message with a particular surname so I can check them. I am looking at the Surname Exchange Index which has over 8000 surnames (not limited to Saratoga County) which Heritage Hunters publishes each year. Some have just alphabetical lists of surnames; some have just pedigree charts; some have family group sheets; and some have all of the above. This list is distributed to members of Heritage Hunters. Heritage Hunter volunteers are currently working on a project at the Surrogate Court of Saratoga County. They are extracting and creating a list of the Testate (with a will), Intestate (without a will) and Guardianships in the index file for all dates 1900 back to the beginning in 1791. This is currently published in our bi-monthly newsletter which goes to our members. We are up to the "L's" in the newsletter about to be mailed. **DO NOT rush to send a letter requesting this info from the Surrogate's or you will receive the shock of your life. By NYS law, they are to charge $70 PER file for any estate older than 26 years even if there is only one paper in it. There are people locally who will obtain those for you for a fee and will follow thru on checking the information that might be in the Wills as well. The Guardianships are the result of an estate so they would need to be researched also. Children sharing the same Guardianship file number may be siblings but might also be grandchildren or children who may be heirs to the decedent. In the Surrogate's list for Banta are: Year= Year probate began Type= Testate-T Intestate-I Guardianship- G Surname, First name File# = Location in file cabinet of all of the probate information NOTE** DO NOT drop any numbers or letters in the file number. There is a difference in file 005/47 and 5/47. Very early files were 00numbers. Year Type Surname, First File# 1812 T Banta, Arie 005/47 1893 G Banta, Barbeam 124a/1 1864 T Banta, Caroline 070/8 1859 T Banta, Isaac 065/2 1883 T Banta, Mary 3/25 1857 G Banta, Pendleton K. 066/62 1853 T Banta, Peter 039/2 1855 T Banta, Peter H. 042/22 1857 G Banta, William H. 066/62 These are the Banta's listed in our newsletter. In Sylvester's History of Saratoga Pg 325 Aurie Banta, one of the pathmasters of 1788, wa a resident of Waterford. He was a carpenter. His name has also been spelled Aarie. There are other Bantas in this book. I hope that others on this list become participants in sharing information. If you have a copy of the History of Saratoga County by Nathaniel Sylvester, please take the time to look up the surnames that show up on this list. Someone else may have some other records. Sharing is what will make this list fruitful and help bring the information about Saratoga County back to Saratoga. Some people possess information from Family Bibles or record sources outside of Saratoga that will never be known to anyone else. Volunteers help to provide the information on the Saratoga GenWebPage <http://www.rootsweb.com/~nysarato/> which has links to other Saratoga related information. Check the Surnames, Queries, Cemeteries and all the other sections of this site. Volunteers contribute to the great bi-monthly newsletter published by Heritage Hunters. Our 16 page newsletter is loaded with Saratoga information and other information valuable to anyone doing research. If in Saratoga your ancestors sleep, they are also covered with snow quite deep. We had quite a storm here yesterday and looking at at least 8" in Saratoga Springs. Might be deeper. My elusive ancestor is the Rev. Moses CRANE. He was a traveling Methodist/Episcopal preacher in the Saratogo Co area in the 1790s. This is what NY information I have for him Any additional information is welcome. Moses Crane b abt 1750 in NJ. he was among settlers who came to Saratoga Co in NY with the 3 McCrea brothers, sons of Presbyterian Clergyman of Lammington NJ abt 1770. Also in this party was a Capt Kenneth Gordon. Moses settled in a town called Edinburg NY Moses traveled around on his "circuit" in NY. I have found him in Orange Co, Ostego Co just to name a few. His wife who was named Sarah Peters ( I believe) must have stayed at home and raised the children, Stephen, Jane, Lottie, and Sally Crane. She died and Moses left the area and went to NJ, just across the river from Phila PA. It was here he remarried in 1796. A copy of this marriage certificate reads....Moses Crane of New York State, Galloway Twp, SaratogaNY. Any one with ANT information on my Rev Moses Crane PLEASE contact me. Thank you, Susan
Hello All, I am looking for information about the William HAYES family which lived in Clifton Park. William HAYES and his son David immigrated from Ireland in about 1817. William was born in about 1776 and David about 1796. William married Maria ALSDORF in 1826. David married Rachel, name unknown. The family was a member of the Clifton Park Baptist Church. William HAYES and Maria ALSDORF are buried in the Clifton Park Baptist Church Cemetery. David and Rachel had 8 children born while they were living in Saratoga County. David moved his family to Broadalbin in Fulton County before 1845. William had a son Elias who remained in Saratoga and raised a family there. Any information about this family would be appreciated.
