He died in 1998 probably in a group home. No one in the family knew that he was there except for his mother who passed on in the 60s. The family is trying to track down the whereabouts and identity of one Gussie Malkin, who was born in 1909. He would've been 64 when you started at Letchworth. I would appreciate any information that you may have about him, or where the inmates were sent to after 1997 (when the institution transferred many inmates? Is that correct?) If he had a social security number, wich he probably did, you could check the SSDI--it would say where the last check was sent, and the month and year of death.
