I have never given a birthplace for Gilbert in any of my posts, so I don't know why you're asking me. There are many theories (including Westchester NY and Barnstable MA), but to my knowledge no proof has ever been found. The first time Gilbert shows up, he's in Westchester Co NY (on West Farms) as a young boy (an apprentice). One of his sons was born in Yorktown and another in Cortlandt, before they went to Putnam Co.
