An example I have in my records is: John Nelson Hemion m. Sarah Adelia Wanamaker. John Nelson's grandfather David and Hannah Jane's grandfather John D were siblings, yet I have seen John Nelson in other genealogies as John Nelson Hennion married to Sarah Adelia Wanamaker. John and Sarah's wedding was published in the Ramsey, NJ newspaper and his name there also appears as Hennion. One might say that John and Sarah are common names, but given the inclusion of unusual middle names for both of them it is safe to say they are one and the same. Was the Hemions/Henions all one spelling at one time and some fell victim to a name change during one of the English occupations of the colonies as happened to many other names? Did the letters 'nn' get transcribed as 'm' or 'm' as 'nn' while imigrating through England or Holland? All likely possibilities. For my brick wallls, I try to look at all spellings.
