    3. After the death of Gilbert JOHNSON c 1829, in Rockland County, his wife Jane (nee SMITH) and his descendents split all his acreage into many small pieces. After much hair tearing and teeth grinding, I have finally made a map of the land and am not much better off than when I started. "The old farm" portion of his land appears to be in the town of Ramapo, formerly in Hempstead, 'part of the old Kakiat patent.' The plat is long and skinny, about eight times longer than it is wide, running generally northwest to southeast, containing about 231 acres. The only metes and bounds given are the land of James SHERWOOD on the south, a road and the land of John J. FORSHEE on the east, the 'new road to the mountain' on the north, and a two piles of rocks at the base of a ledge at the foot of the mountain on the west. There is a cider mill on the north east corner of the property where the two roads intersect. Some of this land was sold to Walter and Stephen JOHNSON (descendents of the Gilbert JOHNSON who married Phoebe GURNEE) and some to the PIERSONS. Can anyone tell me where this property is currently located?
