    1. [NYROCKLA-L] Reminder on appropriate use of NYROCKLA-L

    3. Please note: Rockland surname queries (i.e. queries about specific individuals and families) should be posted to the Rockland GenConnect board. See http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrockla/rcquery.htm for details. The advantage of the GenConnect system is that it allows you to search the entire world of GenConnect (not just Rockland Co.) with a single query. If you are replying to a previous GenConnect query, then click on that query and fill in the "Post a new response" form. On the other hand, if you are posting a brand new GenConnect query, then (after reading the aforementioned guidelines) go to http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Rockland and click on "Post a new message". Note that, to receive automatic email of Rockland GenConnect postings, you must subscribe to a SEPARATE email list. To subscribe, go to http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Rockland , click on "Subscribe to notification list", and fill in that form. Any OTHER (non-surname) discussion of Rockland genealogy or history (e.g. questions about place names, buildings, roads, etc.) is appropriate for this NYROCKLA-L list. Please do NOT send postings to NYROCKLA-L unless they concern Rockland Co. NY genealogy. Not virus warnings, not ads, not pleas for assistance for victims of war, disease, famine... you get the picture. Any of the above constitute chain letters, and repeated violations will cause you to be unsubscribed. Last week's "Melissa" virus gives you an idea of the havoc that can be caused by chain letters. Thanks for your help. We've come a long way in just a couple of years! If you aren't seeing enough traffic on NYROCKLA-L to suit you, try NJBERGEN-L. Just email to NJBERGEN-L-request@rootsweb.com and put subscribe in the BODY of the message. --Bruce (Bruce Hamilton, Redondo Beach, CA) owner-NYROCKLA-L@rootsweb.com bhami@netcom.com http://home.earthlink.net/~bhami/
