Bob, In "The Book of SNEDEKERS" by Walter C. Snedeker, is listed the marriage of John CHARD to Catherine (b. Aug 19, 1803) SNEDEKER. She was the sister of George Washington SNEDEKER who m. Elizabeth CHARD. They were the children of Michael SNEDEKER (son of Theunis) and Eliza Felter (Elizabeth) and Mary Palmer (for George W.) Later, a John Peter SNEDEKER (# 7720) m. Nov 5, 1845, Ann Eliza CHARD. They lived in Rockland Co. And George Washington SNEDEKER (# 8810) m. ca. 1859, Emma C. CHARD. They also lived in Rockland Co. The SNEDEKERs of Rockland County lived on land that was originally part of the Pond Patent, bought by a father and given to his four sons. The land was in the Town of Haverstraw (now the Town of Clarkstown) and mostly in the present village of Congers, and probably some in Rockland Lake (now Rockland Lake State Park) and Valley Cottage. SNEDEKERs Landing is at the edge of their property, on the Hudson River. They were primarily farmers, and the landing was probably used primarily for the shipment of produce to NYC. When one of the SNEDEKER brothers was caught trading with the British during the American Revolution, his portion of the property was confiscated and sold to Col. Jacobus SWARTWOUT, of Dutchess Co, who settled his son there. SWARTWOUT Lake is named for them. I am not very familiar witht the local records, but there are certainly property records in the County Clerk's Office. A new record center and archives was recently opened in Pomona, but the land recods remain in the Clerk's Office in New City, on New Hempstead Road. I hope this will help.
